Hi, my school insurance only covered 12 therapist sessions at the student health center. So now in order to continue seeing a psychologist, my boyfriend and I established a common law marriage so I can be on his insurance plan. Anyway, now I

Hey, Mia. Have you tried looking up the therapists online to see if you can find out anything about them, such as their education and background. I did that when I was looking for someone. Would you rather have a male or female therapist? I was more comfortable seeing a woman, so that narrowed it down some as well.
Good luck,
Laura
hi Mia,
thats a tough one.
IMO I would think that you should go with the appt. you have. Sometimes people sound different then they actually are when on the phone. Give it a chance since you haven't heard .anyone else.
hopefully it will work out for you, let us know how it goes... when is your appt.?
Mia, my gut tells me that you should keep calling around. If you don't feel comfortable with him already, you're setting yourself up to fail. Maybe call others on the list, not only the 10? I looked up therapists online, like someone else mentioned, when I lived in CT & I ended up with a great one! Their office specialized in anxiety orders. Let us know what you decide! Like Heather said, he might work out - it is very hard to get a feel for someone in a couple minutes of a phone call. Maybe you could call him back & ask him your questions. That would give you a better feel for him & his area of expertise. That's what I would do.

well I decided to keep calling more people and just cancel this appointment, it was supposed to be on THursday. Fortunately, one guy called me back he's head of the stress management study center at NYU and he specializes in anxiety and panic attacks. I have an appt with him this Thursday, he sounded really really nice over the phone and I even got a chance to ask him some questions. I'll let ya'll how it works out. first appt's are always fun :P

Mia, that's great!! This appointment sounds much more promising. I made the mistake of going to a therapist I didn't like & I used to dread each & every appointment. Needless to say, I didnt' make any progress while seeing him, lol! Let us know how it goes!
