just afraid to take it. i'm so afraid that i'm going to get side effects but she said that it sounds like i defintely need something since the attacks are coming on pretty much daily. the prescription's for 50 mg. should she have started me out on the lowest dose of 25mg since i'm just starting. she told me i could expect some side effects over the first couple days but some people start feeling better in 5 days or so. i'm also afraid of losing my libido even more than i already have (as a result of effexor a few yrs ago.) Poor DH, i do feel so bad for him. and if this makes it worse then he'll end up going out to find it elsewhere, SIGH :-(. i feel like it's a no win situation but at the same time i need to get this anxiety under control. guess i'm just looking for support and to see what others experiences were w/zoloft. thanks to you all for listening.

I never took zoloft, so I'll let others who have, post their experiences. Here's what iVillage has to say on loss of libido & AD meds. HTH (((hugs))) jan

I took zoloft many many years ago (probably almost 10!) and it had absolutely no side effects. Actually, I lie..I gained 2 pounds, but that seems SO minor compare to the many positive benefits it had :)

try to keep in mind that the psychiatrist knew what she was doing, she prescribed a particular dosage for a reason. I know we have a tendecy to second guess these decisions and focus on the side effects. I strongly urge you to continue thinking positive thoughts, it was a brave decision of you to go ask for medication, and I think you know the right thing to do is to give the zoloft a try. If you are experiencing side effects you could always call your doctor's office and they will tell you whether they're normal or not. And even more importantly, there are always people on this board to talk to and get a different perspective on things from.

keep us updated on your progress, and remember positive thoughts (c:

I'm currently on 50mg of Zoloft. The side effects that I've gotten are dry mouth (I just carry around a bottle of water with me everywhere, which is better for my health anyway) and nausea about 1-2 hours after I take the pill. I take the pill right before I go to bed and I no longer feel nauseous and can eat. The dry mouth has been improving over the past few days as well. As for the sexual side effects, I seem to have a reduced interest but it's more like a reduced interest in initiating. Once we start, then I get into it.

Edited to say: I originally started on the 25mg Zoloft which did nothing for me except make me lose a few pounds because the smell of food made me nauseous. Very good for my figure, not so much for my health. When I upped the dosage to 50mg, I remember I felt..odd. I felt disassociated from everything that I was doing and that was going on. I knew it was all real, but I felt really far away, almost high. Hard to explain the feeling. It was just...odd.

Kim,
I had a great experience on Zoloft. It really helped me get back on track. I think 50 mg is still relatively low. I did experience a side effect in the bedroom, but you know what? It was still better than when I was on the Paxil (Paxil just zapped it). There are other ways to work around those difficulties, and if you weigh the possible challenges against the benefits, you may find that the Zoloft is worth it.

I do not believe there is one wonder drug. Every medication has its ups and downs.

I hope you'll at least try it and see what happens. It doesn't mean you're stuck on it forever.

Best to ya!

Yes, it did. After the first day, I didn't have that feeling anymore.

Hi Kim, My pdoc just put me on Zoloft too! I have been on it for 9 days. She is starting me out at low levels to be increased each wk, that will be at the final dosage of 50mg in one month...Then we will go from there...It is probably too soon to tell side effects. The only one I have had so far is diarrhea(yuck! sorry that is probably TMI!).
But other than that so far so good, I am going to give it a chance.
Maybe we could keep each other updated on how we are doing, since we both started on it at the same time? I wish you much luck! May we both get a lot of relief. I have heard good things about Zoloft. :0)
hugs, shasta
