Hi, Kevin! There are a couple of newer folks that may be able to help you. I have never tried, St. John's wort. FWIW, I have never read anything bad, except when ppl take it on top of their prescribed antidepressants meds.

I'm not a doctor, nor a pharmacist, but there are varying studies that say that St John's is helpful for very mild anxiety or depression.

hi there,

I just wanted to jump in here and tell you to be careful about St. Johns Wort.

I asked my pdoc about it and he said that you have to be careful when taking it because it can react with certain other meds, some of them were antidepressants. He did say that a lot of people do find it effective when taking it the correct way. Also remember that the herbal remedies are not approved but the FDA.

My opinion would be to just give your Dr a call and get the ok for the amount and such.

I hope that you find some comfort.. and please let us know how it goes..

I know many people who take it and swear by it. PLMK how it works out for you. I'd much rather take a herbal remedy than traditional meds. BTW, how did dinner go? I've been wondering ...

Well I have been having anxiety and it seems sometimes uncontrollable severe panic attacks and I was freaking myself out. Also very depressed because of the splitting up of me and my ex. My parents wanted me to get on something and I told them I dont like medicine cause of worrying about the side effects (I would take medicine and panic because of worrying I might get the side effects.) I have been taking St. John Wort for the past 2 days and hmm I can kind of feel a difference but then again im still having panic attacks today. But then again its not like it will change in 2 days.

Also Sheri, we did not go to dinner (I guess she bailed out). But I went and talked to her yesterday 1 last time to tell her how i felt and laid it all down to her. She resisted and told me some things. Later on she called me up wanting to really talk it out so I guess we are in the "working things out" stage. It's wierd though because this is what I want, but apart of me i guess is upset that she put me through this so i feel kind of withdrawn in a way. But thats normal in a way i would think.

It will probably take a week or two before you really start feeling the effects of the st john's wort.

I'm sorry dinner didn't work out, I know you were looking forward to it. I hope she realizes how much you care for her and that she is taking this as serious as you are. My son went through something similar and the girl was just playing head games with him, he was devastated. It was very hard for him to move on with his life he became so obsessed with their splitting up. I hope you are feeling better soon. Please keep us posted on the St. John's Wort - it's something I'm very interested in :)
