I just found you guys a few days ago and thought I would say hi.
I have had anxiety issues for a long time, but I have never gone in to the doctor to get on meds for it until today. I have always done my best to deal with it on my own, but it has been getting so bad that I don't even want to leave my house. The doc said that I have situational anxiety. He prescribed me zoloft. So of course I started taking it today, and I am exhausted. I got plenty of sleep last night, but I have no energy today. I will get a little bit of energy, and start doing something, and I have to stop because I can hardly keep my eyes open. I know that zoloft has the side effect of sleepiness, but would it really be kicking in already? It just seems odd.

Well thanks for listening.

Hi monkeys2 and Welcome to our caring community!
Thanks for sharing your story, I too, just went on Zoloft 12 days ago.
Can I ask what dose your dr. started you out with?
I am on a very low dose that will increase ever week until I am up to 50MG.
I have p/a,OCD, and agoraphobia, all of which I am trying to overcome. I am hoping the Zoloft will help. I am currently taking xanax too, but will be switching over to ativan after I am on the full dose of zoloft-So that is a little of my history.
I hope to hear more about your story soon. I think you will feel right at home here, we have a great group of caring folks!
hugs, shasta

The doctor started me on 25 mg. I take that for a week, and then I am up to the 50 mg. I really hope that it helps me. I have always been very stubborn about not taking meds. When I was 14 I was also diagnosed with bipolar, and I have had help for that on and off, but never the anxiety. I remember the panic attacks starting in 6th grade. That was the only other time I tried to figure out what was going on, and they just said I needed to breathe, and try to calm down. Easier said than done of course.
It would be nice to be able to got outside without being sick to my stomach, or worried about panic attacks. Maybe someday it will happen. :)

Hi Monkeys welcome to the board. Your story sounds a lot like mine. I had anxiety since I was very young and then a few months ago it got so bad that I couldn't leave the house. Fortunately I decided to finally break down and take medication, it worked really well and I was only confined to my house for about 2 weeks. I was prescribed klonopin and lexparo.

Welcome aboard. Yep, sleepiness is a side effect, but I believe that diminishes with time. You'll find a great, supportive group here. Glad you joined. Keep on posting. :)

Hello! Nice to have you here. You are NOT alone. Please feel free to post anytime & join in our discussions. Drop into chat & take advantage of the great group of folks in our community. Lots of willing ears to listen & give you their thoughts on how to cope with anxiety.

I never took zoloft, but I do know that I'm sensitive to meds. I am always sleepy from a new drug. Maybe it's just the anxiety about taking something different & my worried nature. It should pass in a week or so.

Hi there!

I'm glad you found us. I have never been on zoloft but my 1st day on lexapro I was exhausted. So now I take it at night.

It used to make me so tired, about an hour or so after taking it i could feel how tired I was but now it doesn't seem to do anything like that at all.

Good for you for getting some help, their is no reason to suffer in silence.

keep posting and keep up updated on how you are doing. We are a great caring community.

My experience with zoloft is that same as yours. I experienced the sleepiness almost right away but it diminished with time. I am currently taking zoloft and had previously taken it years ago. I think the sleepiness will get better with time.

Welcome
