Hi,

You are not alone. I think that most of us have been in your situation where we went to the ER because of an unknown panic attack.

My anxiety started with a trip tp the ER for chest pain and then another one because my hands and feet were numb and I thought I was somehow paralized.

I still didn't catch on until I few weeks later when I had my 1st panic attack in the middle of the night, then all he#$ broke loose.

I would suggest that you go and see your Dr and talk about this and maybe see a therapist and get some meds. At the very least I really suggest that

Hi and welcome!! Having an isolated panic attack
is possible. I suggest you see your doctor. Sometimes
people get a panic attack and lucky for them no more!!
Yes feeling scared, lonely, afraid are all symptoms of panic.
Hope you can reach your doctor and feel better soon! Judy

Hello! You are not alone. I have been to the hospital during panic because I was convinced there was something medically wrong. It's a good idea to get yourself checked out. It may take some time to convince yourself that all is ok. Folks with anxiety are great thinkers:) Try to think positively if you have any concerns or doubts.

Hopefully this was an isolated attack. Some folks consider it chemical, genetic, excessive stress or even too much coffee, nicotine or lack of sleep. Some of us can even recall panic that came out of nowhere. If you have any concerns about problems or stressors, seeing a counselor can be helpful. Having someone to listen to your fears is a big relief. That doesn't mean you're crazy. That means you need some help in sorting things out. Please be assured that there's no shame in getting help. There are other treatments such as meds, relaxation, accupuncture, hypnosis, meditation, etc. Read through our *what's new on health* folder @ the bottom of this page. There's alot of good info there.

You are very normal. Anytime you have questions or concerns, please post here. Bookmark us to your favorites. We'd like to have you as a regular in our kind & caring community. We care. Good luck & GBU! (((hugs))) jan

not as if you need another person telling you you're not alone, but i also wanted to assure you that you are totally normal! As Judy said most people will experience an isolated panic attack at least once in their life. Its also not unusual to wind up in the ER as a result, the symptoms experienced during a panic attack are similar to those of a heart attack. Hopefully this will be a one time occurance for you, but you should consider going to see a doctor to discuss what happened.

I hope you're feeling better now, a panic attack can really shake you up!

Thanks for your suggestions and support.I feel a little better now, since I told my husband that I think it is my job that is totally stressing me out. (I am a teacher)
I think I need a new challenge, because I feel really trapped in my present position, and that is what is causing me to be upset.
Is it true that a person can have heart problems in their back that go undetected?A guy at work told me that someone on the news died from heart disease that way. SCARY!!!
Also- what tests are in a metabolic panel? Thanks

Heart symptoms do effect ppl differently. It can present as back pain. In fact, women have totally different symptoms than men. They generally don't have crushing middle of the chest pain, but have nausea, fatigue & sometimes arm, shoulder, back pain.

As for a metabolic panel, that would depend on the lab where your blood is being analyzed. It also depends on what specific tests the dr. orders within the panel. Most often the dr. is looking for the fluid balances in your body(sodium, potassium, etc.) & the different organs of the body like heart & liver function. They would have been able to determine on your ER visit if you had heart damage(heart attack)
