Talking in front of people

I know not many people enjoy public speaking, but I think I am an extreme case when it comes to talking in front of people, even small groups. I get so much anxiety and my voice starts shaking, even sometimes when I'm just talking to one or two peole. It's really debilitating and I wish I could get over it. I do go to a therapist and we are working on this, but I still have problems with it. I'm not a quiet person, I am pretty sociable. Does anyone else deal with this?

I would rather walk over hot coals than to have all the attention on me, from 2 people to a hundred. If I have to speak in a group, I usually just try to concentrate on one person in the group that I feel at least somewhat comfortable with. Usually, afterwards I have no idea what I said, and I don't know why. Maybe I send my mind somewhere else.
You're not alone in this.

Hello & welcome to our community. You are NOT alone. This issue has been discussed previously. One of the suggestions that has been made was to get into an organization called *Toastmasters.* Nothing beats fear, than facing it often. This organization helps ppl learn to make speeches & there's alot of practice involved.
I don't know if anyone has ever suggested it to you, but we have had folks in the past that took a class of medicine called *beta blockers.* It blocks the effects of adrenaline. From what I understand, it's not a *nerve* pill, but is used only prior to performances. It's used for other things, like blood pressure(I take one of this class) & is very safe. I can recall 2 posters to this board who took it for performance anxiety & red blotches that caused them alot of embarrassment. Suz gave you alot of great advice. HTH Please drop in anytime. We care & want you to succeed. That is possible with anxiety. Good luck & GBU! (((hugs))) jan
