Hi,
I have been taking Zoloft for about a 9 days- I am having trouble with side effects- mainly diahrrea. Is that normal for that long? I see the doc in 1 week. I don't notice much of a difference regharding anxiety levels. Is it too soon?
Thanks

Hi! Generally antidepressants cannot be expected to fully work until 4 to 6 weeks after being started. I think it's too soon for you to expect very much @ this point. Though everyone is different. As for the diarrhea, that is always a possibility with any new medication. But, it's also a side effect of worry & anxiety. If it's disrupting your life or you have severe pain, cramping, a fever, etc. you should contact your dr. right away. It might not be related to the zoloft @ all. Better to be on the safe side. HTH Good luck & keep in touch! (((hugs))) jan

As Jan mentioned antidepressants do take a while to kick in, about 4 - 6 weeks, and it might even been longer for zoloft because of it's chemical composition.

as for the side effects, I suggest you call your doctor's office and talk to a nurse. It can be completely anonymous, just tell them what you're taking and what your concerns are and they'll tell you what to do. I've done it a million times and talking to a nurse always makes me feel better.

Also keep in mind that diarreah can be attributed to anxiety.
