Have you ever been hypnotized and if so, what was it like?
Who does it? Does it have to be a psychiatrist, or can a therapist do it? Is it considered a last resort treatment, or what?
Part of me thinks it would be really interesting to undergo hypnosis, but a bigger part of me is scared of the loss of control. Therapist and I talked today about my trust issues. I don't let people in. I tend to isolate myself from people, even my friends. We talked about the fact that I don't tell her stuff that's going on with me, and I said it's not a reflection of her--that I would be that way with anyone. She says she can't help me unless I'm willing to open up, and I know she's right. But still.
I see Psychiatrist tomorrow, and I'm not really looking forward to it. He will have read Therapist's notes and know that I've been feeling worse the past 6-7 weeks. And he'll probably want to add more medication, which I don't want. And I'm sure the trust thing will come up with him too.

Hi Laura,
I haven't been around for a while, so you may not know me, but I recognize and identify with the things you wrote.
I'm not sure about "who" does hypnosis.

you have been hurt by someone you trusted!! In order
to get the best from therapy you DO HAVE TO LEARN TO
TRUST that person who is trying to help you-- if for
whatever reason you do not feel comfortable with your
therapist try another one!!
I am hypnotized every two weeks by my therapist who is
also a certified hypnotherapist! It is important to find
someone who is well trained and CERTIFIED!!
There were issues in the beginning with my fear of
the lack of control! I talked with him for 3 months before
he attempted hypnosis--- it is WONDERFUL!!
I am totally aware of all that he says and does! I can
control myself during hypnosis! You will not say or do
anything you don't want to-- I have been in hypnosis for
two years now!! Mostly he responds to my journal during
hypnosis--- for example if I have written my daughter hurt
my feelings when she said--- he will say during the session
"remember you are a good and kind person people you care about
may say hurtful things to you--- do not let these words devestate you!"
He does a lot of relaxation during the session playing calming music
and talking to me-- he will have several messages to me during the
time with music between to help it sink in--- he has not gone in
my past during hynosis--- we have talked about it tho!!
Mostly he is helping build my confidence in myself and
get through this difficult time for me!
After the session I feel so calm and relaxed as I do during
the hypnosis!! I can now often go into this "zone" by myself
and encourage myself- this process addresses your subconscious
and changes the way you perceive things! I am much more confident
in myself and my abilities now- I am able to control my anxiety
better!
If you want to talk more feel free to eamil me! Judy
Hi, Laura! Here's alot of content on iVillage about hypnosis. Please check it out when you can. Like Judy said, finding a certified therapist is a must. I know a local woman who got some sort of on-line training & has ppl visit her home for the hypnosis. I am not impressed):
Blessings, Suz
