side effects of st. johns wort??
| Wed, 10-05-2005 - 8:04pm |
does anyone know if there are side effects of this drug? it's all natural isn't it? i picked up a bottle of it today and on the back of it it did say to be cautious when going out in the sun as it can increase sensitivity to sunlight. but it also said to stop taking 2 wks prior to any surgery. does anyone know why that would be?? just wondering before i start taking it. thanks

Here are 2 sites to check, Kim. The first site does say St. John's wort *may* interact with narcotics. Perhaps that is the reason it should be avoided prior to anesthesia. HTH jan

This med can also interact with antidepressants!
You should not take it if you are currently taking an MAOI inhibitor as side effects can be major and cause injury.
You should discuss all meds with your doc and all supplements and herbs too! Herbs are powerful medicines and are not regulated so therefor you may get varied degrees of dosages in each pill. Be careful when taking these herbs and supplements and even vitamins in excess.
