OCD Tools & Tips???
| Tue, 10-18-2005 - 10:10pm |
Hi there gang,
I was hoping someone on the board might have some tools or suggestions on how to beat the battle I have with OCD. My pdoc hasn't given me any tips yet, and I would like to start working on things now. Meds are so helpful, but I think I need to change my behaviors,as well. If anyone has any tips or informative sites, I would love to hear from you!
Thanx in advance. :0)
hugs!

HI, Shasta! Pretty much the accepted treatment for OCD is like any other anxiety disorder. The actual obssessions & compulsions have to be dealt with individually. My OCD is usually obssessive thinking. Keeping my mind & body occupied helps alot. However, it's tough getting to sleep sometimes with the racing thoughts. Also, I am forced to count repeatedly or re-do my checkbook or re-write a letter as I feel that mistakes have been made. I make a mental note that I will allow myself to repeat these actions for a specified period of time, then move on. It's not easy. Intrusive thoughts can be scary. You must remind yourself that these thoughts won't hurt you. That you won't act on them. That they come from your chemical imbalance & are NOT a reflection on you.

Have a great weekend!
