So scared....

Anyone think that there is a chance that my meds are wrong?? I have been on them since June...the anxiety is much better than before the meds, but I still get so down and so much anxiety at times that I can't take it. My doctor says I am on the right track, because my periods of less anxiety are getting longer...the thing is when I do have anxiety it's sooo bad.
I am so scared. I really don't know what to do. I keep having bad thoughts about everything and there is nothing bad in my life and I can't pinpoint the cause.
I'm so so scared. I have turned into a different person.

how long does this take to get rid of?!?!?!

You sound a little like me - for me, part of the problem has been that the better I do, I take negative emotions as a worse sign, if that makes sense. I'll think to myself, "I was supposed to be doing better by now, what's happening??" It sounds like you may be doing that a little too - you are placing more importance on your anxiety because it is such a change from your normal, happy self. You are experiencing anxiety less often, but maybe you are more anxious about being anxious.

I'm sorry that I don't have more concrete advice to give you, but hopefully it helps you to know that others experience the same thing. If I find some good ways to deal with this, I will let you know :)

By the way, maybe it would help to sit down with your doctor and have a heart to heart about how you are feeling, if you haven't done this already. Your doctor should be there to help you, and even if you are getting better, if you still feel terrible, that's a problem. Give your doc a chance to help you, and then if you really feel that he/she is not listening or does not understand, maybe find another doctor or see a psychiatrist/psychologist.

I have had panic disorder for more than 35 years. Most of those years were good ones, Nina. It is very difficult for us NOT to focus on the negative. But, that's seems to me to be what you're doing. Please celebrate the many positive things in your life. Make a list of all the good, then all the bad. Throw the bad away.

Keep your body & your mind occupied. Allow yourself an hour to feel down & dwell on your fears, worries, negatives. Then, move on. This is so hard, but you hold the key to your success.

Your dr. is right. The anxiety free periods are increasing. Make the most of them. Focus on them. If you really don't think the meds are working, then tell the dr. It is possible that they need increased or a new med added or even a complete change. I can assure you that you WILL get better. You WILL move on from this place. But, pills will not do it for you. They are only a tool. I have been in your shoes & needed to take the bull by the horns, as my dad always says. Sometimes, I even needed to get really mad to make a change.

We have been where you are. We care. None of us is *cured.* We are all in various stages of coping. Good luck & GBU! (((hugs))) jan

cl-ijanis51, I am going to check and see if I may need to switch meds. Do you know if swithing meds with still take the 4-6 weeks to kick in again?? Or will the effect be quicker since being on meds before? I know it takes more than the pill. I have been attending workshops and reading to learn more about anxiety. And I have great support from family and especially my husband.

Goober, yes I do exactly as you do! It's very difficult, I do get anxious from being anxious. I am going to see if I can see my doctor tommorow and see what he has to say. I am worried I will just get the same speech over again, just to hang in there and im on the right track. We'll see......I'll let you know what happens

Thanks for the replies

An increase doesn't generally mean starting over @ square one. It will take a couple of weeks to notice a difference. That has been my experience. I wish you well in seeing the dr. Let us know how things go. (((hugs))) jan
