I started taking the zoloft

I started taking zoloft yesterday. I took it at 10 am & felt fine all day except for a bad "head rush" when I got in the hot tub in the afternoon & felt like I kind of lost time for about 3 seconds. Last night I could not sleep at all, tossed & turned until after 1 a.m., took a hot bath, did some more reading & then fell asleep on our cozy couch. This a.m. I took it earlier, 7 a.m., figuring I'd go lay back down, but I felt so awake, like my eyes were bugging out of my head - zoloft side effect? or maybe because I'm just so tired. I only slept about 5-5 1/2 hours. Now I have diahrrea & of course, feel very nervous & antsy. Am I just nervous because I finally started the meds? Can you feel like this after only 2 doses?? I'm ready to call dh & have him come home, but I am afraid to even call him - my luck the cell phone will be here somewhere & he will be unreachable - that would REALLY freak me out!! If I could just lay down & rest, I'm sure I would be fine, but it is hard with Ian. He's playing in the bath tub right now so I have to sit here by him. Any input would be appreciated.

Hey Sheri Ann,

i don't know much about zoloft but I have never heard anything bad about it. I think that what your feeling is nerves about taking the meds. You have been working up to this for months... Its only natural that you would have some anxiety over it.

Of course you know that the diahrrea is most likely nerves, when I 1st started taking lexapro I woke up every morning with it.

PLEASE take CARE and give Ian his gameboy or put on a movie and rest up. Call me if you need ;)

Hey Sheri ann, My guess it is that you are just a litte nervous subconsciously because you are taking a new medication. However, if you can't calm yourself down, you should call a nurse (not you :P

For those of you who don't know the whole story, the zoloft was given to me in January by my primary care doc. I never took them, and have at least 2 months worth. The prescribing doc is in CT. I'm trying this solo, and don't have a doc to call. But if they work, I am going to tell my pdoc & ask for a script. I had asked him for an ssri at our last appt, but he insisted on the wellbutrin. He is not very easy to work with :(

I have had the very same thing happen to me when starting a new med. The voice of reason tells me that it's too soon to be having difficulties, but my heart says that I am *sensitive* to even tiny changes to my system. I hope you can get a little rest, Sheri Ann. I know for a fact that lack of sleep can cause me to feel *wired.* As if I OD'd on caffeine:) My dr. is understanding about my anxiety & calling the office shouldn't be a problem. Good luck & keep in touch! (((hugs))) jan

Sheriann, when I first started taking the Lexapro I felt the same way, as if I were on what we use to call "speeders". The good thing about it is you could have eaten off my kitchen floor.....LOL I cleaned and cleaned and then cleaned some more. Thank heavens after two weeks of that I finally leveled out. Good Luck with the zoloft, I have a good friend on Zoloft and she's happy with her doctors choice of medication for her.

So if I understand correctly, you're on the Zoloft instead of the Wellbutrin? I don't blame you for being anxious, but just hang in there.

Hi there,

Good for you for starting. It sounds like maybe your mind is playing tricks on you. It does take a while for your body to adjust, but it sounds like you were also thinking a lot about it, which probably made you less able to fall asleep. Best of luck.

Hello Sheri Ann,

The student in me just could not help looking up this med in my "Davis Drug Guide".
According to this book the top side effects are dizziness, drowsiness, fatigue, headache, insomnia, diarrhea, nausea, sexual dysfunction, and increased sweating. Looks like you are having a couple of them. If these persist it says to call the doc.

I am sure your body is just trying to analyze the new med and with time should get better. Sounds like you are making use of the time by cleaning ;-) Good for you! Hope you feel better soon and get some much needed rest.

(((hugs)))

I think it's probably a little too soon for side effects, but I just can't do it. Thursday I was on the couch all day, just feeling wierd. Felt like my bones were shaking inside and was scared to be home alone. It's probably anxiety due to my fear of meds, but not worth it. I had two major, full blown panic attacks yesterday and I didn't take it yesterday at all. I haven't had one of those in ages. I had to take a xanax. Today I woke up feeling really nervous again, yikes! I opted not to take the zoloft or the xanax, sat in the hot tub & dranke a glass of wine. Now I feel very relaxed :) But, I can't very well walk around with a wine flask, can I??? lol. I have an MD appt in a couple of weeks, I'm hoping he'll just agree to letting me take the xanax. I made such progress while on it and I think it's about the only drug I'm willing to try because there weren't any side effects for me, I didn't feel drugged & it gave me confidence to go further. Hope all is well with everyone.

P.S. I don't recommend drinking with anxiety, it always made mine worse!
