This is a long story, so will try to make it short. I found a bump behind my right ear and there was pain when I touched it. Went to the doctor, said it was mastoidits (infection of the mastoid bone). They put me on 1000 mg of Cipro (the antibiotic that you take if you inhale anthrax!). Well, i ended up in the ER Wednesday night. Reaction to Cipro They took me off Cipro and gave me a prescription for Augmentin when I started to feel better. So, Thursday and Friday I couldn't even get off the couch. Nauseau, dizzy, couldn't eat or drink. Talked to my PC Doc Friday afternoon and he said all the Cipro was out of my system and that he thought I was making myself sick with worry.
I have never worried like this before. Can excess worry/anxiety really get me that sick? Even over the past weekend I was still lightheaded. I was online all last week also looking at mastoid and the complications you can get from it (like menningitis).
I am going to see a ENT specialist tomorrow.
Someone HELP !! I feel like im going crazy!!! :(
Cassia

I'm not a dr but did your dr suggest that maybe this was messing with you equilibrium? A lot of things that have to do with the ear can do that. I had two inner ear infections and in order to move around I had to sit and slide across the floor because I couldn't stand without falling. Pretty picture, I know. Maybe call the dr and see if this could have an effect on your equilibrium. If so, it can put you off balance and cause some of the problems you are having.
Hope you feel better soon.
Alison
Cassia,
This is ironic.... I was giten cipro and I too had a reaction to it. I ended up going to the ER and they said that by that time it was all out of my system but I really think that the cipro caused a panic attack which is what I ultimately ended up in the ER for. It took DAYS for me to feel better. I lost LITERALLY 15 lbs in 2 weeks after that.
So, you are not alone and you WILL get better. Just rest and take it easy. Let yourself get better! Its just a scary thing to have a reaction to a med. I know... You are NOT crazy and you will be just fine. Just let yourself get better!
Oh yeah, BTW I was in your town 2 Saturdays ago.. I went to a conference at a local church. Your only about 40 minutes from me.
Take care and email me if you need
OMG, thank you Heather for making not think I was going totally nuts! I sure felt like it. I know for sure that once I started to get the reaction to the Cipro, I totally went into panic mode which made things so much worse. I too have lost about 8 lbs since Thursday. I think I still have your email address....would love to talk to you for a bit about what exactly you went through. I'll try to email you tomorrow.
Which Church in Hudson were you at? Gee, wouldn't it be nice to meet 1/2 way sometime to meet since we only live 40 minutes from one another??
Thanks for all your input.
Cassia
I totally forget the name of it...
We got off the Simon
Hi, Cassia! I have to agree with Alison, that anything around the ear can cause
Hey Cassia, sorry about all your health problems, i hope you feel better soon!
you've already gotten a
Allergic reaction,anxiety, ER's, NOT FUN!
So I totally understand how you feel. You are not going crazy. And you are NOT ALONE in your feelings.
Meds work differently on everyone. I am allergic to Sulfa, Penicillin, Codeine, and now Davorcet. The only anti-biotic I can take for kidney infections (which are a constant in my life) is Cipro! So go figure, Cipro can be a life saver for some folks, and the opposite for others. My wish is that all meds worked the same for everyone, and we wouldn't have to have these scary 'reactions' to meds that are suppose to be helping us!
Maybe someday my wish will come true! :0)
I hope by the time you read this, you are feeling MUCH BETTER!
Take Care, and please let us know how you are feeling, and also how things go with the specialist.
We Care!

Yep, it can make you sick. I hope you're doing a bit better today. See what the doc says, and just breathe. Try not to read all about the bad stuff. Focus on what *is*--live in the moment.
Hugs,
Kendra
