Just a quick share, as I have desperately got to elevate my feet. Been typing most of the day, and oh geez, can we say water balloons? So attractive, let me tell ya.

My husband started night shift Saturday night, which is fine unless I hear noises outside at night--which he's heard too, so I'm not delusional--then I'm up late just waiting. But that was only last night. Just today I started thinking how much it would stink to be home alone and in labor, especially since I don't know what to expect. Oh, you can read all the books you want, but I don't think one really knows for herself until she experiences it, you know? So I can push that anxiety trigger down, but it's there. I hope the baby can wait till my dad gets up here, if anything (one day past due date), so I'll have my "baby sitter" of sorts to keep me company, although Alex is home half the week, so that's awesome. I can't imagine him being gone five days a week.

And finally, I think a dream I'd long forgotten about (I was just in an elevator) made me a little nervous today. I was by myself in an elevator and felt quite uncomfortable. I can be with Alex in one, but by myself, today, as it went slowly, eek. I just covered my face and blew out with my mouth, and I survived. I read over some shopping list I'd made. But geez, I hope that phobia dies quickly, especially since I'm fine as long as I'm not alone.

OK, off to go be alone (LOL) now. The solitude of the night shift doesn't bother me; it's just that uncertainty, you know? Who knows if I'll dilate or efface further this week? I could be like the million other women who just stay this way till D-day, and I'll tell ya, that'd be fine with me. I am in no hurry and just don't see why anyone else would be--that is, if they're having a plain-Jane pregnancy like myself.

Anyway, that's all of my babble for now. I'll try to respond to other posts tomorrow. My body is going to just pop if I don't elevate soon. :)

(So much for a *quick* share!)

Hugs!
Kendra

Kendra, reading your post makes me miss being pregnant! You will be fine. I'm sure your dad will make it in time, how long is he staying for?? and it sounds like you are looking forward to his company. I hear ya about the sounds outside. John leaves so early in the a.m. and I always hear noises and things that scare me before the sun comes up. Just this morning, I was up and checking all the doors, because he ALWAYS leaves them unlocked when he leaves & that makes me sooo nervous. He always points out we are in rural NC, and perfectly safe, but I don't think so, lol. Rural to me means nobody will hear me screaming for help!!!

Your post made me giggle. Yeah, we're pretty rural too. Lots of leaves and deer and oh yes, barking dogs! My dad is staying four days, so it would be better to go earlier than later. Luckily, though, since Alex is an engineer, he has a pager, so I've got that, the cell, and his office phone all lined up. :)

I hate hearing noises when I'm half-asleep, though, because I feel I don't hear them correctly, you know?? Silly animals, leaves, and whatever else goes bump in the night!

I wish I had some words of wisdom, but I do not. You're absolutely right, Kendra. Until the labor starts *book learnin'* is just a bunch of gobbledygook. Please don't hate me, but my labors never started until after I went to the labor room. I went only because my water broke. I delivered both my girls in less than 2 hours with nothing. Nada. Zilch. LOL In fact, with Megan, the nurses kept telling me that if I didn't start having harder more regular contractions, I would never deliver without induction. Boy did they have egg on their face when I

Hey Kendra,

One of my Son's was breech and so i was have a c-section, no questions asked, they were not willing to try to deliver twins with one being breech.

So, I cancelled my birthing class and just settled into having a c-section. Shortly before delivery it was discovered that Justin had turned and I was able to deliver naturally.

So, having little knowledge about the actually delivery and what would happen. of course I knew the basics and stuff but never had gone into detail.

Well, I delivered TWO babies and it just came naturally, my body just know what to do. So don't worry about that at all. I had no books or anything but I just knew what to do.

You will do great and be a WONDERFUL Mom!

It was funny when I first was glancing down the list of posts, I saw your title "Elevators and Solitude" and my first thought was "SHE FINDS SOLITUDE IN AN ELEVATOR!!!!" I'm deathly afraid of elevators, have been trapped in 2 in my lifetime - what's the odds of that happening, lol.

I suggested this to another poster. I think on this board. Anyway, have you thought about getting an alarm. Mine is my peace of mind. Even if it is just animals, wind and such you don't have to worry so much. I know that I didn't know what to expect with my first DD but when the contractions started I certainly knew it. I think you will know. I was unsure but with my 2nd DD my water broke then the contractions started right away so I knew for sure. You will be fine and if you have any doubts about whether you are having contractions or especially if you are not sure whether your water has broke or is leaking, call your dr.

You will do great. Whatever you don't know, the nurses do. The Drs just usually "catch" the baby. LOL

Good Luck.

Heh heh, yeah, I like to use goofy titles for my posts. :) I pretty much have to use elevators at this point, but most of the time I'm OK on them.

Yeah, I've heard that the nurses are more present at the hospital.
About the alarm, umm, that triggers anxiety for me. I set one off twice (same night) at a friend's house because no one ever told me how to turn it off (they were out of town, and I was there to feed their cats). I had to pop a Xanax and was very upset with a variety of people. I hear alarm and think the cops are already on their way (which they were). I prefer a nice strong deadbolt. :)

Thanks though. :)
