Buspirone-how long til relief

Hello all
I haven't posted for a long time, of course because I was in a very good phase for a long time. You know how it is. I was put on Buspirone (anti-anxiety) 1 year ago and I think it must have helped me. The thing is, when they put me on it I was already starting to feel better from my setback at the time. I began doing Yoga regularly in March this year and I felt that was probably a lot of what helped me keep at peace. Stupidly, in August I went off the Buspirone, thinking, Im feeling so great and Ive got my yoga blah, blah, blah. I was under ALOT of stress because we moved and had a lot of expenses and I started a new STRESSFUL job. Good time to go off the meds, right? HA HA. Anyway, fortunately, I had just refilled my prescription prior to moving and started back taking it last Friday (7day ago). I have been miserable, most nights not able to sleep, awful at work, trying to cover up. It's hell. I am a physical therapist and work with patients so It is imperative that I act normal, know what I mean? Im so sick of this bot if nothing else, Ihave learned it is only detrmental to be angry and try to fight it. Accept and let time pass.
My question to the board is, has anyone else used Buspirone for anxiety and how long before I should feel better? I know they say 2-4 weeks but I want to hear from my fellow sufferers. I think I might feel a little less petrified today then yesterday. Thats the problem with me. When this happens I am so fearful and fear I'll never feel normal again. The medicine I believe is supposed to help with the fear, thus the anxiety.
Please help!
Sincerely,
Bonnie

Hi Bonnie,
I have never been on that particular medication.
I would assume that you went off it prematurely and that if it worked for you before then it will work again. Just hang in there and give it time to work.
I know that the fear can literally take over your life and that is scary. I think that we have all been there. I have thought on MANY occasions that "this is it, I am now going to go crazy for good" but it hasn't happend yet...lol
Bonnie, take good care of yourself. Exercise,
WB, Bonnie! Sorry to hear about the return of the anxiety. Have you been under added stress or had any major changes in your life? Sometimes we can determine a trigger. Other times, anxiety just appears out of the blue. That can really rattle me.
As for the Buspar, it's a good med & generally successful. Most ppl see some decent effect against the anxiety in 1 to 2 weeks. It's a much different medication & that is one of it's advantages. I wish you lots of luck & hope that you'll let us know how things are going for you. Sending P&PT's your way. (((hugs))) jan
I have been having to take my old meds form a few years back, Ativan or Clonipan to sleep at night. I used to avoid that at all costs but I've learned its even worse when I dont sleep. What are your thoughts on that? Plus, I only have so many cause thaey dont like to prescribe that without sending you to the Psychiatrist. I went 3 years ago when I was really bad off and he said I dont need psychiatric care, that it is panic/anxiety disoreder. He just felt I needed medication.
No deep seated problems etc. I know that but these promary docs dont understand when you tell them that you just need those meds (ieKlonopin) as needed, for the occasions I am in right now. Normally I doant even want to look at those pills.
Does anyone else have a good relationship with their primary that understands their anxiety condition and gives you medications as I said, without just thinking you're after drugs?
Thanks again my friends
Bonnie
Hi, Bonnie! I know that lack of sleep can really do a number on me & increase my anxiety. However, taking meds from 3 years ago, may not be a good idea. Your system has changed since then & really even though it may be hard, you should get a current opinion & prescriptions. There are some medical conditions out there that can cause the same symptoms as anxiety/panic. It's always best to have a good physical to be sure.
Primary care physicians are slowly learning about anxiety disorders. They are on the rise
Hey Bonnie, just wanted to tell you that I am currently taking Buspar as an augmenter to Remeron (antidepressant). I have been taking it for approx 2 months now, I am taking 15mg per day also, I have been on the same dose for the 2 months. It has helped me a bit, but just 5 days ago I was put on Effexor in combo with Remeron and Buspar. I have been feeling better even since after 5 days, so it could be aiding the Effexor more than the Remeron.....I have no clue, there's no way to tell. But I would say it definitely helped me. Give it sometime, that's the only way you will know. I started noticing a little difference after about 2 weeks or so. Goodluck! Let us know what happens. Hang in there! We are all in this together, don't giveu up.
