I would just like to know if anyone is currently or has taken Atarax for whatever reason

I was recently precribed Atarax after being severely ill. It was prescribed to keep the axiety of my health problems to a minimum. I had no idea what it was until I searched online for information about it as my doctor didnt really discuss it much with me....to my surprise, it is a social anxiety drug!

I have found that when I take it, I become intensely relaxed and feel almost under the influence of a street drug... I am just wondering if anyone has had any problems with addiction or withdrawls - I found myself taking it recreationally today and am just concerned that maybe it has addictive properties. I will talk to my doctor but its early in the morning and Im just awake wondering about it..

Thank You

Hello! Sorry to hear you couldn't sleep, but lucky for us that you found our caring community. You are most welcome here:)

If you have researched atarax(vistaril) then you know that it's an antihistamine. It does have relaxing properties. When I worked a a nurse, we used it along with pain meds to relax the patient & increase the effect of the pain meds. Also, it was given to help with nausea or even allergic reactions to other meds. It does have addictive/abuse potential. That being said, withdrawal difficulties is possible.
