...with panic attacks? How do the doctors respond to you when you do? Have you reached a point where you can differentiate between a real medical emergency and a panic attack? When having a panic attack, how do you cope and get yourself through?

I answered some of this in my other reply to you. I have been to the ER for panic attacks when I truly thought I was having a heart attack. I can tell you that over time you will learn to cope better & not require medical assistance to tell you that you'll be fine. You will be able to calm yourself.

Thank you. I've only been to the ER for panic once: the very first time it happened and I, too, thought I was having a heart attack. I called 911 and went via ambulance. Thought I was surely going to die!

They still know me at the ER anyway since I had four visits during my kidney stone passing and then the kidney infection that followed. And more recently I was there twice for my stomach problems where I wasn't keeping anything down and was become so dehydrated. So they totally know me. Makes me wonder what they think. lol

I have been so close to having DH take me to the ER during panic attacks on three different occasions. Once I made him come home from work, just in case. But I always try to work it out myself and I am always fine in the end. Just sometimes it's so hard to tell what is really going on. I don't want to mistake a heart attack or something more serious for a panic attack. But so far so good.

I have been to the ER for anxiety attacks ( a few symptoms) twice and my anxiety was never caught. I then was dx'd with diverticulosis and I went to the ER and thought that it was related to that. nothing more was found.

Now I know that when I went to the ER the last time it was a FULL BLOWN panic attack. I had ALL The symptoms and it was just awful. My pulse was so elavated and blood pressure so up. I couldn't even go to the bathroom without someone holding me. I was treated with dehydration that time.

I didn't have another panic attack for about one month but I had the "unreal" feelings during that time. I finally had a panic attack in the middle of the night and it just terrified me, I then looked up anxiety/panic and learned that I fit it to a T. I went to see my Dr the next day and my appt was made with a tdoc in 2 days.. it all happened SO FAST. I am ding pretty well now, it has taken a LONG time to get to this point. the anxiety didn't just go away it has been gradual over 7 months...

Take Care and just know that you ARE NOT ALONE!

Hi I went to the ER and the walk in clinic
about 6 times in a matter of a month! I was having
panic attacks numerous times a day. I could barely
stand up alone and actually passed out once!
I thought for sure there had to be a physical cause
for all this terror I was feeling! Once I accepted
my diagnosis I was put on xanax and then Paxil and
went to therapy. This was some 10 years ago or so-
recently I had severe chest pain and thought for sure
the end was near---- it too was stress related. I spent
the night in the hospital hooked to heart machines!!
I HAVE NO IDEA HOW I WOULD KNOW if it was something other
than panic!! My son in law is a paramedic so I would call
him first--- I am better at waiting to see if things
improve before jumping into the car! Take care and
find some help for yourself!! Judy

I just recently went to the hospital because I thought I was having a heart attck/heart issues. I was convinced that I was going to die so I went to the ER and after a good portion of the day they released me. I think they may have suspected stress/anxiety because the nurse asked me if I had been dealing with stress lately. All my tests were good and I felt like an idiot the whole time I was there.

Oh you should never feel like an idiot. It's best to err on the side of caution. Having never had heart problems we simply do not know what it would feel like. And anxiety and panic attacks can mimic heart pain and distress. It's so hard to tell the difference, really. Until it's happened a few times anyway. And even then I still am uncertain. I try and remind myself of all the tests they did on my heart and that they found nothing; everything came back normal. My blood pressure is always normal and my doctor, whom I see every couple of weeks right now, listens to my heart everytime I'm in there and it all sounds perfectly fine.
