Prozac question

Hi everyone.
I have been in a setback for about 5 weeks now. My doctor increased the Buspar that I had taken in a "good" period to double the amount. I continued to feel worse. It's been horrible. I always get depressed when I have these anxiety setbacks but gradually, pretty soon, the depression lifts as I lose my fear. This time I have been more depressed because it hasn't been getting better and it has really been scaring me. My doctor thought the Buspar might be having an opposite effect on me, plus it was giving me stomach upset. Anyway, she prescribed Prozac for the asnxiety and depression. She said it also helps with obssessive qualities, which I have in the sense that when I have these setbacks, I become totally focused on myself. How long til I should see some difference? I know it takes weeks for the full effect. Do any side effects usually go away as they say they should?
Thanks

Hi, Bonnie! Sorry to hear about the setback. You are NOT alone. This has happened to many of us. You will get back to your old self, but it's never soon enough.

I took a very high dose of prozac years back. It was in 2 doses @ 8AM & 12 Noon. I was depressed because of my panic attacks & the resulting agoraphobia. I felt like such a loser for being so afraid to drive & having to tell my kids they couldn't go places. Depression/anxiety can be a very vicious cycle. I never experienced any anxiety or major side effects

I took buspar for about a month and it made my anxiety go through the roof. Are you feeling better now that you are not taking it? I started to feel better almost right away. Anyway, I hope the prozac helps. I have heard it has been a life saver for a lot of people.

I have felt less depressed since I went off the Buspar. It obsiously was too high a dose. (30mg). It also gave me stomach upset.
My biggest fear now is that I cant sleep. Even with 1mg of Ativan or .5mg of Klonipan. Do you have any suggestions? Should I take 2 Klonipins? I know they said I could but it seems llike a lot. The doctor said I should notice a little diference in a week with the Prozac. Is this likely?

I would go ahead and try the 2 klonopins if the doc said it was okay. I was on lunesta for a month or so because I couldn't sleep. Now I am taking lithium (possible bp) and no longer need the lunesta. Try the 2 pills and see if it works. Lack of sleep can make anxiety worse from what I understand. As far as the prozac goes, could be 1 week to 6 weeks. It is different for everyone. I hope relief comes quickly for you.

IMHO a week is a bit soon to expect much, but as Alison said, everyone is different. Maybe you'll have some peace of mind that you're finally getting somewhere. I have taken as much as 0.5 mg. of klonopin in one dose, but now only take 0.25 mg. when needed. Let us know how you fare. Good luck & GBU, Bonnie! (((hugs))) jan
