How do you all manage to stay positive and not give in to the "dumps"? I am on the path to doom and need to remain positive!! Just wondered what works for you...

Thanks,
Lisa

Everyone has a different way of dealing, Lisa. I hope you get lots of replies.

I have dealt with major depression in the past. Way worse than being down in the dumps. I DO NOT want to go back there. For me, I allow myself a certain length of time to have a pity party for poor old, jan. Say 20 to 30 minutes. Then, I tell myself that laying around ruminating or staying in bed is counter productive, so get movin' girl! I make myself keep busy. One of the best ways to get the focus off myself is to do volunteer work. There's plenty of folks worse off than I am & seeing it firsthand is a darn good reminder of that. HTH Good luck! (((hugs))) jan

Hi Lisa!!!! I have a hard time with this one. What works best for me is just keeping busy, doing ANYTHING. I read alot, sometimes novels, sometimes nursing books I've picked up. I also meditate, try to exercise (I really believe that helps, when I feel good I'm not down in the dumps :)) Do you think it's school that's dragging you down? Maybe the stress? I hope all is going well with your classes, you are almost there!!

Lisa......so far you've been given some great advice. For me personally I find my animals help me to stay positive and focused. I remind myself that God has entailed them into my care. He has provided me with undying love and the best friends a girl could have. They keep me busy and when I just need someone to be there for me my babies never fail me.

Hi Lisa,

For me personally I find that just keeping myself in good health helps.

I take a vitamin everyday, drink tons of water and try to exercise at least 20min a day, it is usually more.

It is hard to stay positive, believe me.. I have bad days where I feel as though I am going to crack and can't take it anymore.

Honestly, as I see it

My kids. Everytime I start to feel that gloom and doom I focus on them and 99 % of the time it pulls me through. :)

Seems like staying active is the most popular mood elevator here. When my incision heals and stitches are gone I will have to hop back on the treadmill. Just taking it easy for now.

Thanks,

Lisa

I just had a big piece of chocolate cake with lots of frosting. Worked for me so far.

;)

Seriously, I do let myself indulge in food I know I shouldn't have sometimes and that usually brings me up for at least a little while. My kids are also a big motivator for me.

Hugs.
