Is there anyone who can tell me what medications they are on and what doses are good for GAD/social anxiety? I am on 20mg of Lexapro, and my anxiety is taking over. I am miserable, and I know I need to change, but I am not sure what to do. Do I stay on SSRI's or do a mixture of something? Please help. I am going out of my mind with anxiety, and every little nuonce is triggering some type of anxiety. (all relationship related.) I want to change, but I don't want to go on something that is going to make me gain a ton of weight. (who does, right?)
Thank you so much for reading and helping. Love and hugs, JD

JD, only your doctor and tell you the answer to that one. Do you take anything prn/as needed, like xanax or klonopin? I'd say that if you don't, maybe that's what you need, something to get you through the hard times. Be open & honest with your doc & tell him/her exactly what you are feeling. If you don't have an appointment scheduled soon, call and get in sooner or at least tell them how you are feeling. I don't like to think about others feeling so anxious! I know what it feels like. I hope you feel better soon!

Thank you. I know I need to get into see a pdoc. I am making the appointment first thing Monday morning. I was just curious what works for other people. I am going out of my mind with anxiety lately. I have a prescription for xanax, and I take it when things are REALLY bad, which seems to be a lot lately. I try not to, though. Ugg.
Thank you for responding. I really appreciate it.
Have a wonderful weekend. JD
JD, Why do you wait for things to get "really bad" before you take the xanax? One thing my ex-pdoc taught me was that rebound anxiety was worse than anxiety and that I had to keep it under control. I used to try no to take the xanax & learned the hard way. What worked for me was taking 1/2 pill as soon as I woke up, then I would lay back down for 30 minutes and give it time to work, THEN I would get up and start my day. Even if it means setting the alarm 30 minutes earlier so you can get to work in time. If I started the day without it, I would be so anxious that the whole day would snowball & just keep on getting worse. But if I took one in the early morning, my whole day would be fine. If not, I'd take another one in the afternoon, but after awhile just the morning one was enough. Try it, I think you'll feel alot better :)

I've tried other meds, but didn't like the side effects. The xanax stops all those thoughts that I can't otherwise control. That's what I like most about it, actually. I don't have any side effects, I'm not tired from it, but all the thoughts, all the going over & over stuff in my head, and the APPREHENSION, which stops me from doing most anything, it all goes away for me with the xanax. I think you'll do fine if you just take the pill, lol! Take it from one who has been there!

I take Lexapro and Klonopin which seems to do the trick for me. Everyone responds differently so you need to speak with your pdoc to see what might be best for you. I also find that reading and listening to meditative music before going to bed helps to calm me. I also meditate when I feel I'm starting to get under a lot of stress. That helps for me in addition to exercising and trying to cut out caffeine and sugar.
