Hi I am new here and am very confused at why my Dr. would change my meds when things are going good. I currently take 1 0.5mg of Zanax 2 times a day and have been doing so for 7 months but my dr. wants to cut me to 1 aday I tried but I wake up panicing before I even get out of bed and It made me feel awful so I haven't stopped taking one dose yet. I have an appoiment with him today but,I don't know what to tell him it scares me to tell him in the fear he might put me on something else. I have been doing so good in school and my life why would he change it now? thanks

I would definitely ask him his rationale for changing something that's working at the moment. Could it be psychological that you think you aren't taking it so you'll naturally wake up panicked? If he wants you to go down to one pill a day, what if you broke it in half and took it twice a day that way so you feel like you're getting what you need? Just a thought. I would definitely speak with him to find out where he's coming from.

I will ask him and halfing the 0.5mg just might work but it scares me to think he would do that all the sudden, I don't know why though? thanks for your input it does help thanks. I will let you know after the appoinment at 4:30 today.

I am also on xanax. I take 4 1mg pills usually. I am trying to cut back right now. My doc said that it is very addictive and that is why they don't want you to take it for too long on a regular basis. I am not sure if that's your doc's reason or not, just that that's what my pdoc told me. I take mine just as needed but usually still 4 a day. I was taking 6 a day but have cut down after she increased my lithium.

Let us know what the doc says after your appt. today.

Hugs.

I talked to my dr. and he said that it sounded too soon to lower my dose espically since I just quit smoking last month and my son has just come home from Iraq and finals are coming up. So I am relived at least for now. Thanks for the suggestions. If at all possible I would like to be all meds free some day but one day at a time.

Thanks all
