Prozac side effect

I started taking Prozac 1 week ago for anxiety and anxiety related depression. This may sound strange but can it make your mouth taste gross, like bad breath or is this just another one of my suggestible nervous symptoms? And if so, do most of these type of side effects go away? If so, I can deal until it does.
Please answer!
Thanks, Bonnie

Some folks are more sensitive to the meds, Bonnie. Bad tastes are NOT rare. Increasing your fluid intake, good mouth care & sucking on hard candy(you can get sugar free, now) will help. HTH Always good to hear from you. (((hugs))) jan

ha, I have a nasty taste in my mouth since starting it, but I have some sinus issues, so it could be that and plus the weather changing.

Bonnie,

I'm usually a lurker, but your post caught my attention. I started taking Prozac a month ago for panic attacks, anxiety, and depression. For the first week I had a horrible taste in my mouth as well as dry mouth. Sucking on peppermints really helped with that. The second week I seemed to lose my sense of taste all together. My pdoc assured me that was normal. By week three all the side effects were gone and I felt pretty good. So far Prozac is working wonderfully for me. I hope it helps you too.

Take care,

qt

rxlist.com, the website that gets its information from the PDR, Physician's Desk Reference, doesn't list bad taste as a side-effect of Prozac. Anecdotally, some people report it though: http://rxlist.com/cgi/generic/fluoxetine_ad.htm

Oh my Kim, I remember having impacted sinuses once in my life and the taste and smell of everything was that of sinus.

Thank you all so much for your
helpful replies. It is a relief to hear that others had similiar reactions and that they fade. I always hear that SSRIs cause insomnia. Since this has been a big issue with my anxiety, (I've been taking Clonipin at night) do yu think it's likely to give me that problem or is that relatively uncommon. When I am not "in a setback" I sleep fine. My sleep disturbances are always caused by my anxiety bouts.
Thank you!
Bonnie
P.S.Any opinions on when I should notice some improvement with the Prozac? I know it takes weeks for full effect, but I hope there is some improvement soon.

It takes 3 weeks for any SSRI to reach a full theraputic level but many people notice some differences before that.

Most literature suggests 4 to 6 weeks for optimal effect on the SSRI's. I would hope that in 3 weeks you would notice something. I get alot of help over on the Antidepressant Meds board. http://messageboards.ivillage.com/n/mb/listsf.asp?webtag=iv-bhpaxil&nav=start
