Hi everyone :-)
This is my first time to the board. I have 2 boys - Sal is 5 and Tyler is 3. I had ppd after Tyler was born but was too embarassed to do anything about it. I'm not sure if you'd still call it ppd now that he's 3 but I finally got up the nerve last month to go to the doctor. I was sick of yelling at the boys for every little thing and just feeling miserable. She put me on Lexapro 10mg and I noticed a difference with 2 weeks. I'm on it for almost a month now and I feel like I'm starting to get back to how I was before. The first 3 weeks I felt GREAT but now I'm worried again. I go back to her the end of December. Do you think she'll just up the dose? I know I can't expect to feel 100% every day but I did for those few weeks so I guess I'm just surprised.
Any feedback would be great :-)
Kristina

Hi Kristina,
I am also on lexapro, i started on 5mg and I am now on 30mg.
As Heather mentioned, 20mg is usually therapeutic dose so 10mg may be too low to have long-term effect. You should contact your doctor to find out if 20 would work better for you. I just had to have mine upped to 25mg because the winter weather makes me depressed and I wasn't feeling as good as I had been. There's always other options if that doesn't work for you!
Yes, she will probably up the dose. The good news is that you saw a difference and that is awesome. The lexapro is working for you. A small dose is used in the beginning, now she will just "tweak" it to the right dose for you. It sounds like you are well on your way to feeling better. It's too bad you suffered for so long, but that is now behind you. Don't ever be ashamed of how you are feeling, there is no reason to feel like that. Ppd is soooo common & is really making the public aware since Brooke Shields came forward.

Hi, Kristina! Nice to have you here. So many things can effect our depression & anxiety. It is entirely possible that you need your meds adjusted, but don't forget to factor in the weather, the upcoming holidays, your cycle, etc.
Meds are only a tool. They will not take our symptoms away entirely. Learning new ways to cope more effectively is best for the long range. Have you considered counseling? Research has shown that the combination of meds & therapy is most successful. If you're having trouble dealing with the kids(& what mom doesn't?) have you tried giving mom a time out? Do you have hobbies or interests that will give you some time for yourself? Do you get out to an occasional movie or a lunch with friends? Please take a look @ our *coping tip& tricks* folder below. You might learn ways to relax by meditating, writing in a journal or yoga. You have put your health needs on the back burner for 3 years. Now is the time to put your health first. It will take time to feel better.
We care about you. We want you to live the better life you deserve. It is possible. Please post anytime with questions or concerns. Our members enjoy sharing their experiences. Check out the chat link @ the top of this page. You're very welcome here. Good luck & GBU! (((hugs))) jan

Hi Kristina and welcome to the board. :)
I'm glad to hear you went to the doctor and are having great success with the Lexapro. I've never been on that myself but I do know that with all medications they can work for a while but might need some adjusting here and there. Don't worry about it too much. I'm sure that's probably the case for you. Good news is that you found something that helps you and now you found this board. Everyone here is absolutely wonderful and supportive. :) I've found it has helped me so much just to post here. I'm sure it'll help you too.

Sounds like you're doing the right things to get yourself feeling better. If you don't think your meds are working as well as they once were, definately tell you dr. It may just take a small tweek to get you right again. Good luck with it and keep us posted.
