I'm anxious to hear the replies. I have no idea what causes these kinds of feelings. There was a time when I considered them irrational, but now I look for the cause, too. I have the same type of feeling around sharp kitchen knives. They can't be left in the open. I worry that somethint bad will happen, someone will get stabbed. No reason that I know of for my thinking along those lines. Sounds similar to what you are going through. I just put them away, out of sight and the fear goes away. I chalk it up to ocd. In your case, you can't just put the doors away, that stinks! Maybe sitting in the middle in back would help you get over it?? You could watch the kids and the doors, but not be feeling so close to the doors yourself?? I hope you find a way to get around this. I know how important it is to be able to be in the car and feel safe.

(((Jeanie))) This is more than likely an *intrusive thought.* Whether it has anything to do with what has happened in the past would be up to a professional to say. I know that they are very real & very scary. I had them after the birth of Jasmine. I feared that I would harm my kids in someway. Never a direct plan, just this free floating anxiety that I would hurt them & I might not even know it. I recall sitting on the steps outside our apartment all night a few times, to keep them safe from me): You have probably heard others on the board talk about their fears. Like Sheri Ann says, they are irrational @ times & part of obssessive compulsive disorder. If they make you so uncomfortable, then you need to seek some treatment. Meds & therapy work best.

Remember that the thought is not a part of you. It isn't real. You are NOT crazy & you WON'T go crazy. Your kids are safe with the doors locked & their belts on. Relaxation, meditation & belly breathing will help you when the thoughts are overwhelming. It is best not to read or watch things that trigger you. Like the news or websites that deal with scary subjects. I have to stay away from alot of horror movies. That just feeds into my anxiety & uneasiness.

I am sorry that Dave makes light of this. For those who don't have anxiety issues, it's difficult for them to understand. You know you're always welcome to post here & we'll be suppportive. You can & will feel better, Jeanie. Sending P&PT's your way. You are NOT alone! (((hugs))) jan

I didn't sleep well last night either, Jeanie! I am sorry to report that I wasn't worrying about Dave. LOL If he can humor you out of anxiety, then that is a good thing! I use humor after the anxiety is over to prevent myself from getting depressed over my fears. Some not so rational. KWIM? Good luck to you. (((hugs))) jan

I don't want to jinx you, Jeanie:) We're having another bad snow & ice storm. That is making me uneasy. I am really doing fine today, even without the sleep. My vacuum cleaner blew up & my can opener went on the blink. I was making a dish of jello & here I am with a can of mandarin oranges & no way to open them. In the big scheme of things there's alot of people worse off than me. So, you go right ahead & vent! I am all ears.

My dad dropped in & brought a manual can opener, his shop vac(wow! I thought I'd never get those nails out of the carpet)

Sounds like an Erma Bombeck day Janis, goodness, sometimes there is nothing left to do but laugh at the endless string of annoying things that happen.
