Problems doing relaxation exercises?

Ok this is probably going to sound strange but I have been trying to do relaxation exercises like meditating deep breathing and such and I can't seem to do it. I start to feel weird (probably relaxed I have probably forgotten how it feels). I get this kinda of numb feeling and I start to freak out. Did anyone else feel weird when they first started relaxation techniques? Did you get over it after doing them for a while? Its frustrating I can't seem to relax ever. It's gotten so bad a lot of the time I can't seem to sit still I will pace the floor.

Thanks,
Candie

Believe me, Candie! It takes a long time to get the hang of it. Especially if your mind is racing which is a big problem for me. Try to practice when you're feeling relaxed. Then, you will be able to kick into gear when the anxiety strikes.

I have to ask if you're *deep* breathing @ a slow, regular rate? If you deep breathe too

Hi Candie,

I get the exact same feeling - my arms and shoulders get numb and I start to get a little anxiety. What I have been doing is telling myself that it is a similar feeling to the one I get after stretching at the gym. Since I feel my best after a workout, that association seems to help calm me down. My anxiety can be aggravated by too much sensory input and too little - it's weird.
