Hi everyone. I have posted here a few times in the past and even joined in a few of the chats, but mostly just lurk. I want to become a more frequent poster and get some help with my anxiety.
I have had panic attacks pretty much all my life.. starting at age 2, although i was not diagnosed until age 22.

Hello and welcome back to the board!
I can relate to the heart thing. I'm obsessed with my pulse and my heart rate. I have a tendency to check my pulse several times a day to insure that my heart is not racing. I get heart palpatations once in a while too during a panic attack. Mostly I get rapid heart beat and it drives me insane!!!! Of course everytime I have my bp checked and my pulse I'm always fine. My heart always sounds very strong and healthy. But for some reason it's not enough. I probably would have bought a monitor too. I could totally see myself doing that.
Have you tried psychotherapy in combination with the meds? That is what I've recently began to do and it already seems to be doing wonders. The meds alone were not cutting it for me. The combination of the two seems to be key.
Also, has your doc offered anything like Xanax? Just until you get a handle on your panic attacks anyway. I got some of that recently and it totally helped me with a couple of major panic attacks. I don't take them daily; only when needed.

thanks for the quick response! can xanax be taken with prozac? I was thinking of asking him to up my dose of that, but xanax sounds better, especially if it can be taken when i feel something coming on.
Yes, Xanax can be taken with Prozac. I am also on 25mg of Zoloft. It definitely helps calm me down when I'm in the full swing of a panic attack. I try very hard to not take them (they are known to be addictive and you can build a tolerance to them.) But just knowing I have them helps me out a lot. And in one week, the most I've taken is three. This past week I've not had any!!! :) It's worth asking the doctor. There are other meds similar to it as well that he might suggest.
As for a good self help book, I have no idea on that one. But perhaps someone else here will have some great suggestions. I would most definitely look into getting some counseling though. I really think you could benefit from it! :)

Hi, Kel! WB! Sorry to hear about the return of the anxiety/panic. In my experience, anxiety seems to run in spells. The very fact that the stress & changes in hormones during pregnancy brought out an increase in anxiety, tells me that your cycle or PMS most assuredly is responsible for some of your anxiety now. You are sensitive to hormonal changes which is very common to those who post on this board.
The chatters will be glad to save you a seat on Tues. & Thurs. evening from 9 to 11pm Eastern. Hope to see you there! Have you checked out our *coping tips & tricks* folder below? hello kel and welcome to the board.this is an awesome place for us folks.i always feel so bad when i read a post like yours,as i so know how you feel.i have suffered the exact same thing.right now (knock on wood)i have things under control, although around my period i do have anxiety, but it does not scare me to much anymore.yes your period can cause palpations at least my cardio doctor says so,and its because blood volumes in your body are changing which in turn makes your heart have to work just a bit harder to make up for whats lost.most ppl probably dont notice it but,,,,,we are so sensitive and if your like me ya notice everything.anxiety is such a simple word, its amazing what all its capable of doing to us.jan always says, anxiety
