Hi,
I having been taking zoloft for about a week now. Low dose of 25mg because I seem be sensitive to side effects. The last two days I started taking the zoloft in the day time because I was having difficulty sleeping. Ever since I started doing that I feel weird uncomfortable. Really lightheaded I have been getting head aches and just an overall feeling of panic. I am wondering is this just normal to feel this way when you start taking it? Will these strang feelings go away or get less the longer I am taking it. I really want this to help and don't want to quit too soon. Should I just deal with the sleeplessness and take it at night because I seemed to notice the side effects less when I took it at night. Of course I suffer with panic and anxiety when I am not taking medicine so I really don't know how much is in my head or if I am really feeling side effects or not. Any suggestions or personal experiences with anti-depressant would help.

Thanks,
Candie

Candie,

I, too, am on Zoloft 25mg. I started it the last week in October and experienced similar side-effects and then some. I was also nauseous and vomiting. I felt so out of it and the panic attacks increased. I almost went off the meds. But my doc and I agreed to just try and work through the side-effects. So what I ended up doing was cutting the 25mg dose in half. I did that for a week and then increased to 25 and that helped a lot. When you are sensitive to meds (I am VERY sensitive too) sometimes you have to half the half doses. If the side-effects continue or get worse, let your doc now ASAP. There might be something else that will work just as well with less side-effects.

BTW when I increased to 50mg, that proved to be too much. I was having dizzy spells and more panic attacks. So I cut back to 25mg and that it where I'm staying for now. Even though the majority of folks take 50-100mg, I just can't tolerate it.

I don't have personal experience from zoloft, but I know alot of people who have taken it successfully. My mom & 2 of her gf's were given it FOR sleep. All 3 took it on a short term basis & it helped. My gf has taken it @ bedtime for a few years to help her depression. Several on the board got good relief from anxiety.

My pdoc told me to take the xanax if the panic/anxiety increased when I started the zoloft.
