When you just don't feel like talking...

I actually kind of like going to therapy because it gives me a chance to vent and because my therapist has helped me understand things about my personality that I've never thought of before. But, you know, there are some days you just don't want to talk. My session is this afternoon, and today is one of those days when I want to be left to my own devices and not probe into things. And of course, therapists are smart. They make their living getting people to talk. I know she isn't going to let me get away with clamming up, as I'm usually chatty.

Any suggestions? Is there a way I can tell her that I'm really not up to much today?

Thanks,

Laura

Laura, for me, I look forward to therapy, but as it gets closer, I just don't feel like going.

IMHO, it's too bad that you didn't cancel the appointment, Laura. Your therapist may have had someone on the cancellation list that wanted/needed to talk today. Maybe your *t* had some paperwork to catch up on. I would have been upfront with my *t* & given him the option of how he'd like to spend the hour.

In the event you haven't gone to the appointment yet, maybe you could allow your *t* to give you some pointers on how to deal with your troubles @ work. She might enjoy doing the talking today. Let us know what you decide & how the appointment goes. jan

Just got back from the session. It went okay. I was afraid she wouldn't let me get away with avoiding a topic, but she was fine with it. We ended up talking about other stuff, and she was totally understanding of me not wanting to talk about the particular situation. I had been over and over it already with my best friend and was worn out. I needed to think about something else for awhile. And you know...she did more talking today than she usually does.

So...I'm glad I went because I had to cancel next week's session due to a conflict.

Thanks again, everyone.
