Hi
New here and was wondering if anyone could help. I have suffered with slight anxiety and depression for awhile, years on and off. I never took any meds for this, until recently.
I just had my third baby and have been a little depressed and anxious. Most of it comes from the change in lifestyle ( iwas working and now am home again, also the weather)> I just feel I can be happier. So my therapist told me to see a psych so she can prescribe meds, I did. I tried lexapro only for 2 days but experienced panic attacks and nervousness. Now I am so afraid to try anything, especially since I have been having some really good days-today being one of them :) I go today to the psych again to try something else, I think she is going to lean towards wellbutrin or zoloft. Iam afraid of the zoloft because of the sexual side effects, a prob I already have! But I have read some crazy side effects from Wellbutrin as well. HELP!! I think I read too much!! Im afraid of the side effects, but curious about feeling better. Ihave to go to the doc in about 3 hours, and I am really confused about what to do.
Any help would be so appreciated. Thanks
Kathy

Hi,
I am sorry to hear of the troubles you are having. I have to say I am slightly suprised at the lexapro causing anxiety as I understood it reduces it. (looking at adding this med at the moment for anxiety) As for the Zoloft, I have never taken it as I am on Wellbutrin. I have to say it has elevated my anxiety level to the point of adding Klonopin to combat the anxiety. But that is me and me alone. However I have improved with my alertness, activity level, and over all feel so much more alive on the wellbutrin. So I do feel it is working in that sense but not for anxiety. Its so hard when it comes to meds and what works for who... it would be so nice if they could figure out some test that would be able to determine what med would work for who... until then we play the trial and error game...
Please take care and I do hope you find some peace..
Wendy
Hello,
I am also new, have been reading on the board for a few days. Just wanted to tell you that I have been on Lexapro for about 6 weeks now, take only 5mg. The first two weeks were really hard with increased anxiety. But I made it through and am really starting to notice my first improvements. Lexapro is a stimulant at first, but then really helps with anxiety.
I took it once before 2 years ago for clinical depression and it took me about 2 months to get to a therapeutic dose, which was 10mg for me. I want to go up on the dose, but need to take it slow because I always have problems with side effects.
So I just want to encourage you not to give up on meds...........they are a true blessing. Just be patient, during the first weeks you could always take Xanax or Ativan to help with the increased anxiety as needed.
Take care,
Anja

Welcome to both Kathy & Anja! It's great to see you here:) You are NOT alone! We have many generous folks in our caring community who are willing to share what has worked for them in difficult times. Please post often. Join in our chats. They are held on Tues. & Thurs. evening from 9 to 11 PM EST. Watch the board for a link tomorrow. It's always come when you can & leave when you need to. Newbies are given the opportunity to tell a little about themselves & ask questions. No pressure to talk. You can just read the typing if you want:) We care about you & want you to feel better. A good life is possible in spite of anxiety.
All meds effect each of us differently. It's good to get some ideas from others. But, you MAY be right. Too much info can make things worse for those of us with anxiety. That is true for me, so I don't read alot when I am first prescribed a med. I take it
