Hello all,

I finally got to see my doctor today. My dad loaned me the co-pay to go see her(he's a good dad). I talked to her about the trouble I have been having with the zoloft and she feels that since I have tried several SSRI's and I have had pretty bad side effects with each (the luvox was the worst could only stay on for 2 days) that maybe I should try a different class of medicines. Has anyone out there tried Effexor XR? If so did you find it helpful? I really want something to help so bad, my anxiety and panic and depression really need managed right now. I am little afraid to take it due to the fact that my husband took effexor for a couple of months didn't think it was helping him and decided to stop taking it. Well he had severe withdraw symptoms, he actually thought he was going to die. I ended up driving him to urgent care and it was just withdrawl symptoms. I know each person is different I am just scared to take something that might make it hard to go off. Any ways I am ranting and raving again.

That was so nice of your dad, Candie. You really needed that appointment. I was on effexor XR for 3 years & it covered my panic very well. I did have trouble having orgasms, but it just took a little more work. No other side effects except some dry mouth @ the beginning. You do have to go off of it slowly, but that's what we should all do with any of the SSRI's. It wasn't bad just flu like symptoms & I would go back on the med again, if I needed it. HTH (((hugs))) jan

Thanks Jan for your response. The doctor is going to have me take a low dose of the zoloft for week while taking a low dose of the effexor to minimize withdrawl from zoloft. I am crossing my fingers it won't be too bad. I never really have the O's so not having them won't effect me too much :)

Hi Candie,

I am also glad you got to go to the dr. also. Sounds like your dad is good..
I am taking effexor xr and it seems too be working great for me, I was a real basket case.
so it has helped me and I have been on it 14 days tommorow, but it seemed to start working the 3rd day for me, I was alittle sleepy at first, but it went away. Hang in there sounds like you are on the right track, take care. We all start somewhere. cross the other bridges when you get there, I have been told. HAGEvening.
