I have to move...

Boy, does the timing suck on this one. I live in a rundown, old apartment building (rent is cheap) and have lived here for almost 3 years. Without going into the details, basically the leasing office is refusing to make repairs that are necessary for safety. I threatened to take legal action, and they are giving me the option of moving before my lease is up without incurring any penalties because they are too cheap to actually fix the problem.

Now, believe me, I want to move out of here and somewhere nicer. I've been griping about my apartment for a long time and had planned to move anyway. But I am scared to death to move *now* because of all the panic attacks I've been having. Moving is very stressful for me. When I moved back in 2003, it set off a chain of panic attacks. I lost 10 pounds (not a bad thing) and was hardly able to eat the first month I lived there.

I've talked about this at length with my parents and my best friend, and they've all promised to help me in any way they can. But I'm still worried that I won't be able to pull this off (the move will be in late February or early March). I have such a hard time accepting help from people. It's going to be hard to admit to them that yes I need help packing, coping, etc.

Any advice?

Thanks,

Laura

I can totally understand about the stress that a move brings on. I just moved in Decmember and I was so anxious about it, but I found after being here for two days I started to feel better. You may find that you feel better in the new place, one less worry about living in a unsafe place. Every stressor you can reduce helps and moving to a nicer place might make you feel better. Don't feel bad about taking help from people who care about you, they obviously want to help or they wouldn't have offered. Everyone needs a helping hand every once in a while. I hope everything goes well for you. Hang in there.

The only advice I have is that you should take the help that they have offered you.

Hi, Laura! I moved almost 2 years ago. From a rural area where I lived for 51 years to the city. I knew everyone where I grew up. I didn't know a soul here. It was terrifying): But, I looked @ it as an adventure. I saw it as a step up. The area is close to the YMCA & YWCA. The library is 3 blocks. There's 2 coffee shops & 2 small family restaurants, plus a Chinese place within 4 blocks. I tried to look @ everything in a positive light. It was for the best. I did have some anxiety & trouble sleeping when I first moved in. But, I had a fresh start. I got rid of tons of accumulated junk. This was a brand new place that had alot of decorating potential. I had fun making it a home. I saved money on 7 or 8 mile trips to the grocery store or the pharmacy. My neighbors are grrreat! If I can do it, so can you. Good luck! (((hugs))) jan

PS I can call @ least 6 places for pizza delivery! Noone delivered to my door in the country. I am living the
