ok my doctors appointment was moved, now it will be tueday.i finally decide to go and that happens.i talked to the nurse who also is encouraging me to try meds as needed.my doctor perscribes klonopin or xanax the most.i hate the fact that i may have to take any but,i need sleep.which one should i lean towards?if either of them makes me feel high or strange i will spaz out.when i took ativan in the hospital i swear i felt it hit me, i felt really strange,i panicked for a second, ran around the bed going omg dave,it was actually comical now that i think back about it,then i went to sleep for hours.i dont want that to happen.i just want something to relax me,without feeling stoned.when i was giving the ativan it was the smallest dose cut in half.i only weigh 100 lbs so i dont think i can handle the meds, just sensitive i guess.i am so nervous about this.i know everyone is different but which one do you guys here the most positive with,or have you tryed both and which did ya like better?i dont mean together either.lol.klonopin or xanxas.

Hi, I just wanted to say I have tried both. Each person is different so its hard to say, but I found with the Xanax it was a very quick acting med that pretty much made me very sleepy (which I needed really bad). I slept for like 3 hours right after taking it. I have only taken it once I have trouble taking pills so that was a big step for me. I took the Klonopin for about a month. I only took .5 dose and I didn't really feel any side effects from it, what it did was help me feel a little calmer all around. It seemed to last longer than the xanax but it wasn't an instant feel better remedy for me. I would probably still be taking it but I for some strange reason got hives from it. I get hives really easy from medicine for some reason so I ended up stopping it. Not to worry though thats not a common side effect. I wish you luck with your appt and hope you find the right med combo for you. :)

I have taken xanax once to go to sleep and it relaxed me quick, but that is me,but I only have taken xanax, so I don't know about the other, but everyone is differnet and your dr. should let you know, I would think. Sorry I couldn't have been more help. I know others can give advice on their experinces with the other and maybe both, it seems the same meds affect people different. Good Luck.

I have taken them all, Jeanie:) I like the klonopin best. I was never super sleepy. Never *felt* it relaxing me. That was the effect with xanax & valium & it freaked me out! Klonopin is a little slower to act, but never enough that it bothered me. HTH (((hugs))) jan

I've taken both as well as ambien for sleep. At this time I'm taking xanax, it has never made me feel loopy or wierd but can make me tired if I take more than 1 in a day. Xanax works quickly but doesn't last long imho. Klonopin takes longer to work but lasts longer with the same results as the xanax. There are drugs just for sleep if that is your goal. Ambien can be habit forming just like the rest of the drugs we're talking about but it is designed just for sleep. If you take that I suggest going straight to bed because if you don't it did make me feel loopy, drugged even. Ambien is recommended for no more than 11 days but I was on it 6 months and never had troubles with it. Only problem with Ambien is that it is designed to get you to sleep, not keep you asleed. Your body is ment to take over. There is also a new drug out called Lunesta that claims to hold you longer in sleep and is not supposed to be addictive or much less if it is. I have not tried that. Hope I didn't confuse the issue by mentioning these meds. I just figured if you are only aiming for sleep you may want to try a sleeping pill.

Good Luck
Danielle

Hey Jeanie!

Well you know that I take klonopin.. I choose that because I tend to have anxiety that is long lasting, it usually doesn't just hit me. Klonopin takes longer to work but lasts longer, so for me it was a good choice. It keeps me calm for the whole day...

Let me know what you decide!!!

I have an extremly high tolerance to meds and found neither of these to really make me sleepy however I found the xanax to give me abit of a buzz where the klonopin just calmed me down without that high feeling. That's my experience but as we all know meds do work differantly on differant people. I'm also a rather small person and the docs are always amazed at the amount of anything it takes to help me out. Usually they kind of freak out cause they tell me what i take usually drops full grown adult males.

Hi-
I think that it really is how your body responds to medication, so it seems that you will have to give it a try and see how you feel. Can you try it over a weekend when you don't have anything in particular to do? That way, if you feel spacy, you can sleep it off. As for me, I have taken ativan, klonopin and most recently xanax, and have found xanax to make me the spaciest. I called my pharmacist and they said that it goes away within three weeks (I am also on buspar, so I'm trying to get used to all of it myself). Just try it and see how it goes. Remember, you will be okay no matter what, keep reminding yourself of that and take care.
