Psychotherapy - Does it help?

I'm just wondering how many of you on here are actually in therapy? I've been seeing a cognitive behaviour specialist now for about eight months or so. Prior to undergoing treatment with him I had two other psychologists when I was a teenager but I saw both for a total of three and a half years and I found they were unequipped to handle my situation or I just used to talk about everything else during the sessions except my anxiety.

I find that my new therapist is helping but it's very very slow. The thing is I don't want to find another therapist because I find sometimes, on a good week, it's just a waste of time, but there is a lot about the sessions I do not like. That is, I find, since this is a male psychiatrist, that he really has difficulty understanding me. I almost think if I saw a woman she would understand so much better since women and men clearly think so differently. But I do NOT want to look for another psychiatrist. I barely have the time to see one now. I just don't want to be in therapy for years and years either.

So if anyone else here sees one, what do you think? The reason I see a psychiatrist and not a psychologist (because they would actually be better suited to handle my problem) is because psychiatrists are covered by Medicare. A psychologist is SO expensive.

I don't know how helpful this will be, but in the States, psychiatrists charge more than psychologists. Medicare in the States covers both of these practitioners @ 50%. My therapist is a good therapist. I just think that sometimes he needs help understanding things from a woman's perspective. It's like sometimes I want to yell at him "DON'T YOU GET IT!?!?" This is usually when it concerns my worries about my relationship.
