Acute stress disorder
| Tue, 01-24-2006 - 10:14pm |
HI, I went to my psychiatrist today who said that the reason I have dreams every night about my relationship breakup is because I have acute stress disorder. I dream about our relationship, like a movie, as soon as I fall asleep and feel like I have no control over it. I am angry because I am going through this and he is fine. I am the one dealing with all of this anxiety and he is just happy as anything, unaware of how much the breakup devastated me. I can't believe I am having this happen. Has anyone had a similar experience, and if so what did you do to get through it? I also have a meeting tomorrow that I am dreading. I have a big fear of meetings now, and I'm not sure why, other than I have to speak in front of people and it scares me, I feel so threatened. Any advice about either issues would be great. Thanks. Susan

Hi Sheri Ann,
Thanks for welcoming me to the board! I hope that I can help in any way. I think sometimes just knowing you have someone to listen to and express your feelings to is great because we all went through so much. I wish that I had this outlet when I had started getting anxiety's at 18 because it would have re-assured me alot sooner that what I was going through was normal and natural and just the way I created scary feelings to compensate for being insecure with myself and things. I was the Queen of What if thinking, it also helps me that my cousin is the one person that knows the extent of my fears. She is very similiar so I could run by the what if's to her and she would say....well, I had a what if I snapped and started screaming at work, like tourets!! When you get scary thoughts it is no laughing matter, but for us we laugh because we make it a little more dramatic just to see that our worst fears are not going to happen. Plus, we had similar ones.
I totally understand the glass bubble scenario...I would tell my cousin I am going to be like John Travolta in the Boy in the Bubble!! Do you take allergy medicine? I have been given so many prescriptions over the year that I never took. Except fot the occaisional nasal spray. This time the Dr. gave me allegra and he said it will not give me bad side effects, because I told him that I get nervous with medicine and stuff like that. I felt reassured enough with him and will just take it as needed.
Have a great day!
Paula:)
I took claritin for years and it worked great, then one day it stopped working.

Hi,
Whenever you get a chance just take the test with the ENT. I wish I did it years ago just to find out what I was allergic too.
The group is a great place, I am happy I decided to de-lurk.
Paula
I'm happy you decided to de-lurk, too :-)

Hi Susan :)

Hi Sheriann,
Sorry it took so long to write back. I am doing alright. Still having the dreams and thoughts about my ex-boyfriend. I saw him last week at work and he wanted to talk to me as if nothing ever happened, and it got me so mad! I couldn't talk to him, and emailed him and basically said to forget about me, even as friends for I cannot be friends with someone who would hurt and use me. I asked him not to respond, and he hasn't. He wasn't at work this week (he's only there 2 hours per week), and he's never missed a week since August.
I hope all is well with you too. I'll try and go to the chat room on Sunday! We are supposed to get 12inches of snow, so I'll be going stir crazy!
Susan
Hi Susan, it sounds like a good decision on your part.

try..I hope it works.Men can be so, I can't think of an mature word right now but,, oh

Lynn-
Thanks for the idea, I will give it a try as it makes sense since I also have hypoglycemia and it was recommended that I eat more protein! I hope it worked for your children. Take care and thanks again, Susan
