paxil?

Hi there,
Anyone take paxil?
I can't stop my ruminating thoughts. It is driving me crazy. I think I can handle anything, but when it comes to my brain on repeat, it gets the best of me. I am totally obsessing over this one mom at school! Make it stop. I am going out of my mind. Paxil is supposed to help the "obsessive" side, so we'll see.
Hope all is well. Looking forward to hearing from you.
Love, Jolie

Hi Jolie -
I've been on Paxil before - several years ago.

Thanks. I just started 25mg yesturday. I have been weening off lexapro, so I have been combining the two for a week prior. I am hoping to get good results.
Thanks again for your response.

Paxil was very bad for me. I gained weight, lost my sex drive, and it didn't help my depression at all.

HI there,
I have been taking Paxil for over 3 years now and it generally works pretty well for me. I am now on a lower dosage - 10mg per day. How long have you been taking it for? I started at 5mg per day and increased by 5 per week until I was at 20mg per day and it did take a little while for it to really work.
I also have Xanax which I take on the rare occasion that I have a panic attack.

Hi there,
I started last week, but was weening off lexapro at the same time. Now I am on 25mg, and I know it takes a while to kick in. My ruminating thoughts are the worst part of my anxiety. I do have xanax that I take on occasion, as well. I just hope it works, because if you knew the things I ruminate over, you would probably laugh at me.
Thanks for responding.
It will take 2 weeks to kick in, from what I've read.

Yes, Jolie. I found this on the PDR website & Paxil is a good med for obssessive thinking. I won't list the dosages & side effects, etc. because I know what they do to me:) Here goes:
Why is Paxil prescribed?
Oh, I am sure that I would not laugh. I have had the most odd and seemingly ridiculous thoughts cycle through my head at 100mph keeping me awake. So I know that I would not laugh. For me, the intrusive thoughts are what really worry me.
Like I said earlier, I have had a really good experience with Paxil. But each of us has our own unique brain chemistry and it certainly does not work for everyone. If you communicate with your pdoc what's going on, you will be able to find what works best for you.
The thing that works best for me when I have ruminating thoughts is to do some visualization. There are different exercises that a therapist taught me but one of the best goes something like this: I lie down and relax my body, legs straight out and arms at my side. I close my eyes and take in deep breaths. When I breathe in, I picture my breath as being a beautiful golden light and when I breathe out, I visualize that light coursing through my body and driving out all impurities on its way out. It slows my heart rate, gets my mind on something else, and makes me feel better physically.
Maybe there is something like that which might help...
