I had my second appointment today for Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and it was really intersting. I was wondering if anyone else had been through this kind of therapy???? It is really focused on doing things to help with the anxiety, real tools. I'm kind of glad because I just don't want to sit there and talk anymore about my childhood, my background, my problems, yadda yadda yadda! Not that this is not helpful and was helpful for counseling in the past for me, but I really am seeking tools and hope this works!
Today we did a mindfulness exercise - to be mindful of the moment. It made me TOTALLY see how much my mind goes crazy with CONTASNT thinking! It was very hard for me to be present. The exercise was totally relaxing. I am supposed to practice being mindful for 30 minutes a day. We will see!!!
I'm also on week 3 of the Midwest Center/Lucinda Bassett tapes which is also based on cognitive therapy. Can you tell I am searching for some relief??? I'm doubling up on this method!!! This is a very very interesting program and I am learning SOOOOO much about myself. It is amazing how much you identify with what she is saying on the tapes about what kind of people have anxiety and what kind of actions in our daily life causes both anxiety and depression. I realized for the first time I have some depression issues and that 85% of people with anxiety do. I ended up getting the full set of tapes with a workbook on ebay for $100 and it has been worth it so far.
I'm still waking up with crazy morning anxiety, but by the evenings I am fine and hopeful at some point I'll be "normal" again!!!!

You and I are a lot alike with our anxieties.

Chances are pretty good that my past experiences HAVE contributed to my current anxiety. But, how many years of dredging up the past does it take??? LOL ITA with you. Learning to cope in the present is what works the best. I have said before that my best therapist gave me homework. I was expected to use my newly learned coping techniques & report the results in the following session. It was challenging. It kept me motivated & on my toes. Good luck to you!
I am so glad to hear that you got the rest of the Lucinda Bassett tapes. I have worried about that. That's my chosen profession, BTW:) Keep us posted on how you're coming along. It's good to see you again! (((hugs))) jan
I love Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and am so happy to hear you are feeling better because of it.

Hi,
The Lucinda Bassett tapes and the books are the best!! My book looks like it has been through the war and it is swelled to an enormous size from the amount of times I have dropped it into the tub while reading it.:) When I read the book and listen to the tapes, I felt so reassured to know what I had was similiar. I would listen to the tapes and smile because I felt like that is me. They are ok, I will be fine!
Have a great day!
Paula:)
