Just a few observations...

I stumbled upon this board a few weeks ago and have read many posts. I just wanted to add a little BTDT wisdom.
As you can see by my member name, I feel I am finally at a place where I am comfortable. Many of you are not there yet and I really feel for you. Some others are in a dangerous place but just don't realize it yet.
Let me say that anyone who brags about 'having to take a xanax' wants attention. Otherwise he/she would just take it and cope. I was in that position once and after therapy, I was able to see where I wanted the affection of others with the "atta girl, good for you, you took a pill....". Please be careful with this med, it can be very very addicting if you take it "just because". Hopefully you are talking with your therapist about the best way to learn to cope without it. Mama's little pill is no good in the long run. Learned the hard way.
Someone else here mentioned that they were not going to do a psych evaluation because just talking with the therapist was enough. Nope, you really need that evaluation. As I have found, those who need meds for whatever reason will bias their conversations in therapy to manipulate the doc and try to bend them to their way of thinking. One member mentioned that she told her pdoc that she would take the lithium in order to get her xanax, but then said she had second thoughts. Nope, those were not second thoughts, it was manipulation to get the xanax, there was no intention to take the lithium because she had already stated many times before she was off of it and would never go back on.
I'm not trying to bash anyone here, I just want you to know that if you are 100% truthful with your docs you will get further faster. It takes listening, joining in, being truthful to your doc and to yourself. I've been there and done that. Please be very careful, it is the rest of your lives you are talking about here.
Finally on the good side of me,
Barb

Barb,
Maybe you could add a little more about yourself so we know where you are coming from?

Please elaborate on that a bit... also if you did the same thing then what is wrong with other people doing it? From what my pdoc said... benzo's are perfectly safe as long as taken as perscribed.
We all support each other here and
Hi Barb and welcome to our community.
I have to agree with all of what Heather has stated.
