Dh really wanted me to test drive the car and the dealer agreed to give me some standard lessons so I went this morning. I thought I was going to vomit before I left so I took a xanax figuring unless I'm calm I'll never be able to drive the car due to sheer nerves.
I did really well actually. I surprised myself, The 2 dealers that took me out said I underestimated my skills driving a standard. There was one intersection where my nerves got the better of me. It was odd because it was flat ground, All I had to do was get going and turn left and I kept stalling the car out. I was eventually 1/4 of the way into the intersection so he had to get behind the wheel to get us out of that.
I did REALLY well otherwise. I even went onto major hills on the back roads, not ready for traffic yet, but I did well on those too. My shifting was pretty good, Only missed a gear once or twice. I could hardly believe I'd done that well. It only took me maybe 15 minutes to get a handle of first and once you do that the rest is a cake walk.
I'll tell you one thing ladies, this car ZOOM'S! Mazda's got the logo right this time. I couldn't believe how fast I ended up in 6th and speeding no less, lol
So, Dh & I are going to talk again tonight, Go over all of the pro's and con's to this car and If we decide to go for it we have an appt set up for tomorrow morning to sign the papers. I still have mixed emotions about this being a lease but I keep focusing on the positive which is a new car in 4 years if we choose to do so. I worry about the mileage but I did the math based on the miles we've put on my car in the last 13 months and if we stick to that we won't owe much in mileage fee's at the end of the lease so I'm not too scared of that. Leasing is just new territory but there is just no way we can afford to finance this car : ( Then again after what dh did with the truck I don't know that I'd want to finance his vehicles again. I was so mad at him when he told me he didn't want the truck anymore.
I'm ok now but I know the nerves will set in again. Funny thing is that I am actually excited despite the fact that it is a standard. When we had my Jetta I was literally afraid of the car. I'd have a p/a EVERY TIME I got into the car or even thought of driving it and while I freaked this morning I'm ok thinking about driving the car now. I'm still not ready for the big hills w/ traffic but I can handle the back roads and I think that is a lot of progress for me.
Ok, I just had to share with someone. I have not told my online friends about this yet. My mom & My 2 best friends know and that is it. I'm excited! For the first time in a long time I'm really genuinely excited about something : )

First off, It's nice to meet you too : )
Thanks for the positive thoughts. I was proud at how well this experience went as opposed to the first. My anxiety does get the better of me but I figure with time, just like learning to drive any car, I'll get used to driving around in traffic. It's just a matter of time. Thankfully the base has little traffic, many turns and most importantly BIG hills to practice on, lol
Thanks again & I'll keep you all posted.
Hugs & Positive Thoughts Always,
I remember my first stadard shift was a Datsun 280ZX.
