Hello All!
I am new here. My name is Lorraine and I am a sahm and wahm of three boys. Their ages are 12, 5 and 3 1/2. My oldest son has GAD (generalized anxiety disorder). I decided to post here for support on how to deal with his disorder. He was diagnosed when he was 5 years old. The symptoms he has from it are like the symptoms of ADD/ADHD. He is hyper, compulsive, ect. Is it normal for this disorder to be patterned next to ADD/ADHD? He is on a non stimulant drug that is for ADD/ADHD that treats his symptons. He has been on this drug for a year or more and was on stimulants 2 years before this one, which I did not like. It seems to be helping him but sometimes he seems to have no common sense at all. Is this normal with this disorder? Parenting him is a challenge. He seems like a normal child but he can be very difficult at times. I was wondering if this was just his age or his disorder or a little of both. I look forward to any support or advice anyone can give me.
Thanks,
Lorraine

Hi, Lorraine! It's nice to see you:) Dealing with a child with an anxiety disorder must be very difficult. The symptoms that you have mentioned are not what our members generally encounter. Our focus is on adult issues. Children with special needs are best served by professionals that deal with those needs. Noone is a professional here. I am sure you love your son & want the best for him. Just as we, on an individual basis work closely with our health care professional, IMHO, you should do the same. I am going to suggest the following
