Has anyone ever mistaken gas for palpitations? I just had what felt like a "jump", but I"m all gassy from soda (no caffeine), and I"ve noticed before that when this happens I'm usually kind of burpy....I always thought I was having skips from the caffeine, but now I don't drink caffeine anymore....

Is this what I get for self-diagnosing?

Wow your post struck me.I to have something similar. But the gas and added pressure pushing up on my chest actually causes me to have palpatations. When i ask my cardio doc about this (which I thought he would think I was totally strange)he said its the gas causing it, and to lay on my right side, which did help that jump feeling, and also made me pass lots of fluffs.I also have that feeling if i eat to much, again its the pressure.I have mitro valve prolapse though.

Yes. The movement of gas is very close to the heart location. I have held my breath for a minute hoping my heart would beat normally again, only to find that a burp resulted. I'll go so far as to say that gas jumping made me think I was a goner. LOL Oh, this dang anxiety): I am so aware of these sensations & they can scare the pants off me. HTH (((hugs))) jan

OMG...gas and eating too much can cause palpitations?!?!? So I'm not hallucinating that I'm more prone to pounding and skips when I eat too much?!?!?!?

WOW...ok....that's very interesting to know! Thank you!

It never occurred to me, but it makes sense with positioning of the stomach against the heart...funny how obvious things can take so long to occur to us....!
