What you're experiencing sounds like so many Q&A's I have read in advice columns, Jennifer. This family stuff always raises the anxiety levels whether people have an anxiety disorder or not. My first impression is that you're trying way too hard to please everyone. Secondly, you can only be anxious about stuff like this if you allow it. You hold the key. That's a decision you need to make. Thirdly, I cannot believe anyone having a housewarming before the marriage & expecting gifts. Good heavens! I am no manners expert but this crosses the line of common decency. Does this couple expect family & friends to finance their entire married life??? IMHO that cornbread for 75 people IS your housewarming gift, gf! Good luck! (((hugs))) jan

Arriving 10 minutes early sounds like a good plan.

Jennifer,

I found myself in a similar boat a few years ago but for a friend. I have 3 kids to raise and was finding that her wedding was taking up a huge chunk of my budget. But I did find ways around it.

I put the dress on my credit card and made payments on it. For shoes I called up my cousins who had went to 9 proms all together and borrowed them!! I did not have my hair "done" but did it myself and everyone loved it! It actually looked better than some of the girls who spent a fortune. I also skipped a few of the gatherings, like dress shopping trip, flower party, etc. For the bridal shower I suggested that we all buy gifts for the bride to use on her wedding or honeymoon and it went over well. We were able to spend minimal or large amounts without comment. I actually found a beautiful set of faux pearl bracelets for the bride to wear down the isle, less than $20.00.

The wedding was great and we all had a good time. I don't think anyone even noticed that I was "frugal"....LOL.

Hope everything works out for you, try not to think too much about the money since you are committed, cannot put a price on happiness.

Jennifer,

How did it go on Saturday? You sure had/have a full plate and it can seem so overwhelming. As for the cornbread, I envy you having a recipe that good! Is there anyway you could post it for us here? I absolutely love cornbread, yummmm!

All I can say for so many things in your life right now is to take it, like they say, 'one day at a time', or one project at a time. If you can divide the big things up into manageable little things and attack them one at a time, pretty soon most will be over and done with.

I try to not worry about finances that much. I guess what I do is figure I can't do anything about them anyway, so why worry, lol. Things somehow have a way to make themselves work out if we don't inadvertantly cause more obstacles.

Let us know how it all turned out this past weekend. I am dying to know!
