Hi everyone,
I'm new here and wanted to now if anyone has tried the natural approach to your panic attacks .My problem is more like panic with some social anxiety thrown in to the mix. I had been taking xanax for years but it became so addictive and was very hard to get off. My anxiey has been comming back so I have been taking the herb called kava kava and was wondering what you all think about it. I would like to go the herbal route . Has herbs helped you?
Thanks so much

Pinkdiamond i use to use the natural approch before my anxiety became to high. My suggestion to you would be go to a good health food store and talk with the people there. They are usually in the know about what helps and what doesn't. There are some good combinations out there that may help you. Good Luck I believe in trying the natural approch first and then if it doesn't work go the medicial route.

I just stumbled upon an article in a magazine I bought last night. What timing!
The article is about anxiety issues and curbing them with Rescue Remedy. The magazine is FIRST, for women on the go, March 13, 2006 issue. It is usually at any checkstand in a grocery store or I got mine at WalMart. The cover says 'drop 100lbs without dieting'. The article is on page 38.
It is a very interesting read and you may want to try the Rescue Remedy. They have a website rescueremedy.com. The article says it is proven to reduce anxiety in 89% of women. Definitely worth a try in my book. If I remember right, you can also get it in health food stores.
I agree about the xanax. Good luck in your quest.

I will look into everything all of you have suggested !
I will let you all know how it worked for me.
Thanks pinkdiamond
Hi & welcome!
Sheri Ann
Well I bought rescue remedy yesterday so I have taken it for 2 days haven't seen much yet but I will give it a little longer. The girl at the health food store said it wasn't as strong as kava kava which I was taking and felt it needed to be stonger but I thought I would give the rescue remedy a try.
thanks everyone, this anxiety is the worse
I have been doing a ton of looking into this lately because I am pregnant and have to be sooo careful of anything I take. I did go to a (sorry I am going to spell this way arong :) Naturopathic specialist and he recommended (well, of course all the body cleanses, especially, sorry if TMI :)the colon cleanse)as herbal supplements for anxiety and stress reduction is kava kava (but not for me cause of the pregnancy. For me, well its safe for anybody, but specifically for me he recommended that I drink one gallon of water a day (lol like I dont alreday pee every 5 minutes) and three capsules of all-natural valerian root three times a day combined with 500 mgs of passion flower a day. It seems to be working great. I was EXTREMELY drowsy for the first 5 days but once I got used to it I started to feel more awake but much more relaxed through out the day. He said for specific occurances of panic attacks to try the deep breathing exercises, drinking one 8 oz. glass of water and if that still doesn't help then there is a supplement called (ughhh spelling gain I think this is right) argentum nitricum 9silver nitrate). Sorry this is so long but this is one subject that I am right there with ya. I have found another great website to help learn various breathing techniques...I tend to overbreathe and get all dizzy when I belly breathe, prolly cause I do it wrong but I have found one's that have worked for me at:

I am on my way to check out Jan's site and see if I can finally learn to do this belly breathing thing right :)
