Pregnancy & antidepressants

Hi you guys.
Does anyone have or know where to get good info about taking antidepressants during pregnancy? I am not going to see my doctor for a while and I am really curious about this. I am taking 150mg of Effexor daily and also taking Buspar.
Also, is there anyone here that has taken medication while pregnant?
I am thinking about having kids, but it seems like I am to take the medication until at least next winter. Thanks for you help!

Here are some past posts you can check for info. Also, in the Health & Well Being folder on the bottom of this page there's new info posted. I didn't take meds during my 2 pregnancies. I did have minor anxiety but much less than normally. I have often thought that the changes in hormones worked to my advantage. Hopefully others will add their thoughts. Good luck & keep in touch! Hi there,
Just so you know, I did a tone of research on this topic. I have two beautiful children, both boys, and they are both healthy. I took Zoloft with my first, and Lexapro with my second. I know ssri's are safe exept Paxil. I would check with your doctor first, since I do not think Effexor is an ssri. I highly reccomend staying on your meds if you feel you truly need them. I fought it for a long time, and then realized that I was no good to my unborn child if I was not healthy mentally. Best of luck to you, and you could drive yourself crazy searching for answers to the question "is it safe." Truth is, you need to weigh the pro's and con's of how bad you feel your mental state is. Sure, no one wants to take medication while they are pregnant, but if it is crucial to keeping you happy and healthy, then it is a good choice. Look at it this way, if you had a thyroid problem or diabetes, you would take medication for it during pregnacy.
I wish you the best of luck. I agonized over it, and I am very happy I did. I don't know if I could have made it through each pregnancy without it.
Love, JD
A couple more points of view for you. HTH (((hugs))) jan

Understanding EFFEXOR XR
EFFEXOR XR is believed to work by affecting the levels of 2 naturally occurring chemicals in the brain — serotonin and norepinephrine. Because EFFEXOR XR works on these 2 chemicals, it is known as an SNRI, or serotonin-norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor.
The information on this site should not take the place of your doctor's advice or instructions. If you do not understand all of this information or want to know more about EFFEXOR XR, ask your doctor or health care professional.
