Do any of you experience short term memory loss with your anxiety and/or panic attacks?
Hi, Bev! Nice to see you again. This question has arisen before. Research indicates that stress & anxiety can contribute to forgetfulness. I had problems a few years ago when I was unable to recall the names of
I have a serious issue with short term memory loss - but I did not experience it until after taking Klonopin for several months. Like forget what i'm doing or where i'm going in the middle of doing it.
I had suffered from Panic attacks for more than a year with any significant memory loss prior to taking the klonopin - so I'm certain that it was the med. obviously it doesn't effect everyone that way - but it did me.
I also have trouble with remembering simple words like potholder.. and just normal everyday words... right in the middle of a sentence. then i get a little upset by it thinking - what the heck is wrong with me that i can't remember the most simple terms that i have used a million times.. I associate this type of short term memory loss to stress and anxiety like Janis said.. I notice it's been much worse on me lately as my anxiety level has risen.
Good Luck -
Valerie

Bev, did you tell the VA the reason for the appointment when you made it?

Bev,
Hi, I noticed that you said your SO was a veteran? I'm assuming that he has had a tour of duty(ies)? This is sounding more like PTSD then just an anxiety disorder. If you have the app't anyway you may want to talk to the VA about getting a referral to a civilian mental facility in order to get a more accurate diagnosis (military doesn't like to diagnose PTSD because it usually entitles the veteran to disability checks), but, if the VA refuses to give you a referral, have him go to a regular mental health facility and see what the diagnosis is anyway, he still could be entitled to benefits depending on his diagnosis etc... Best of luck to you and your SO :)

here! Forgetting a word here and there is one thing but your SO
sounds like it is more than that??? I would have him get checked out
by a medical doctor! You could also go to the ER when this is happening!!
Just my 2 cents!!! GOOD LUCK! Judy
