I have reached a point where I am getting worse, the stress is just too consuming. I would like to find someone to talk to and get me through this but not sure where to start. (other than the yellow pages).
Any tips and advice is appreciated.

When in the states, I started with the docs on my insurance plan. Then I looked at their credentials...I really wanted to speak with a clinical psychologist and not a social worker or counselor. Finally, I just called until I found the place that could take me the quickest. That worked out well for me...but I really should have asked the doc some questions before I went. As it turned out, he discussed that and his approaches to panic attacks in the first session and said that if I didn't feel comfortable with that, he could refer me to other docs that prefer other methods.
Hope this helps :)
IMHO it's a good idea to get ideas from family/friends/co-workers. You could check with some of the nurses @ the hospital or even the hospice nurse. I know it's sort of private & you probably don't want to share that it's for yourself. Just say you're checking for someone;) Once you get some names, call & ask if they have experience with anxiety issues. That is your right to know. It's your money & your chance @ getting well. Here is what I found on iVillage: http://search.ivillage.com/search/ivillage?sk=ivi&restrict=ivillage&q=finding+a+therapist&x=13&y=9

I have an appointment with my cancer doc on April 5, I am going to ask her for a referral. I *hope* she has a few ideas.
Thank you for being so thoughtful! I will keep your questions in mind.

Thanks for your input. I am worried that it is going to take me forever to find someone right. I am so crunched for time with school and need to work around that. I don't want to talk to a social worker or counselor either. I did that once and she was not qualified, just judgemental and pushy.

Jan,
Thanks for the link. I plan to start my search by talking with my cancer doc, I have an appointment April 5. So I just need to get through one week!
