Well, I didn't go to my appointment yesterday as planned. I had a massive anxiety attack at work and they told me to go to the hospital. Luckily, I have a great doctor, and she had told me to come in without an appt if needed. She gave me a shot of demorral and a painkiller (for the headache) and decided to put me on Zoloft. I took my first dose of it this morning. Does anyone know how long it will take for it to fully take effect? I am sitting here at work today terrified of having another attack and I keep telling myself to calm down. Oh, my doctor also schedulked a CT scan next Tuesday. Can anyone tell me the difference between a CT and CAT scan or are they the same thing? I was told they would be injecting a dye into me and to bring someone along on the off chance I react badly to the dye, does anyone know anything about this process that will help me to be calmer about it? I have a week to wait before I get it done and I don't want to spend the next 7 days worrying.
Anyway, that is the update on me. I am so glad to have found this board, just knowing I am not alone helps a bit. One other question, what do you do when you feel a panic/anxiety attack coming on? I would love some advice on keeping them from hitting full force. The sister of one of the women I work with said she used to get them really badly and she would breathe into a brown paper bag. Also she had a psychiatrist tell her to always remember that no one ever died of a panic attack, they won't physically hurt you.

The anticipatory anxiety is the pits): Waiting for the other shoe to drop is typical for those of us with anxiety, but totally unnecessary. It wastes time & energy. Try to keep yourself busy. Distracting the mind works well if you have some coping mechanisms in place. Did you try the *coping tips & tricks* folder below? I may have told you that belly breathing & positive thinking are a great help
