Doc visit

Hubby and I went today to see our regular doc. We have been
to see him about 3 or 4 times now--- relatively new to him!
He is willing to give me my meds for anxiety disorders-
but did say "there has to be a reason for this anxiety!"
well no kidding----- this was the first visit---
he also said well you can't stop the xanax can you???
I said no I don't want to!!!
this time we went and I told him that my anxiety has been
pretty high lately-- I said we went on the cruise---
he said now wait "you go on a cruise to relax" and laughed
I said well and then he said that being out of my safety zone
may have upset me--- he then said did you think and worry about
it alot before you went??? WELL YEA!!! He said what do you do
when you have a panic attack? I told him I try and stay alive
during it and ride it out!! I said maybe my sister's birthday affected
me since she died 2 years ago and he said yes I am sure it did.
He asked about my therapist and I told him who he was again--
and what he does. He just nodded.
I am confused by his questions and answers etc! I don't really
know what the bottom line was--------------
I kind of feel like he is not too familiar with anxiety disorders???

we talked about going to Germany and the air flight he said to
take extra xanax and would my therapist help me I said he will.
He asked how and I said through hypnosis and he said have you
been hypnotised before and I said yes. He make no more comments.
Just feeling confused here!! Judy

I'm confused, too, Judy. Doesn't take much. LOL I don't think it's so much that he doesn't understand anxiety, he just has a hard time discussing it. Some docs don't know what to say & some say too much. I will give him credit for NOT telling you that you would have to get off the xanax. As you know, we have had people post that is what they were told. I think that he may be trying to arrive @ his comfort zone & develop a working but caring relationship with you. Are you thinking he isn't the dr. for you? Did he seem ok with hubby? Let us know what happens. Good luck & GBU! (((hugs))) jan

Hi Judy,1st of all I would run like the dickens LOL I would keep my therapist for anxiety and other Dr. for family illnesses. I let my Dr interfere with my anxiety once and it was havick. It sounded to me like he was saying that there was an underlying reason for your anxiety (duh) and possibly affirming that you are hooked on the xanax, which is masking the TRUE problem. True, we all know that is how it works but for us it WORKS and we function. Your therapist probably would have praised you for going on a cruise, seeing the strides that you are making and understanding your anxiety level. WOW going to Germany??? I lived there for a year when hubby was stationed in Bamberg, beautiful place. When are you going? I think that is great. As for the Dr. I just do not believe in messing with something that is working and I think that is what he is fixing to do. but you know me, doubting Thomas. Others may see this as something totally opposite of how I saw it. Anxious to read other comments, especially Jans lol. ttyl (((hugs))) Debbie

It sounds to me as though he was just going with the flow, giving you what you want and not trying to change anything.
