I have always had problems going to new places.I would give up job interviews b/c I didn't know where to go.Eating somewhere new, going to someones house I'd never been to(even if I knew the person). It would flip me out to the point I would shake, feel sick, etc. With my moms work anyone in her family gets free mental health appointments.I try to explain to her that if I could make that phone call(a place I've never called before)I wouldn't need to b/c I wouldn't have issues with new things.I've been told I have panic attacks, and a bunch of other things but I just don't know.Anyone have any input?

Hi, Gabby! Nice to see you here:) You are NOT alone. All of us on this board have fears & worries, so we do understand how you're feeling. You can learn to overcome these fears of phone calls

Hi gabby! Clearly you are very uncomfortable with change (new things) and you've got a life full of them coming up. Seems like that's one of the things we can always count on; change/new things. Get busy and talk with a medical professional, find out what options you have to help yourself and get busy learning how to enjoy life a little more. All of us that post here have problems with new things so as Jan points out, you are not alone with this issue. But perhaps it's time that you decide to cope with something new and that new thing is professional help. You will get better. Many folks here are living proof of that. This is a good place to talk and we hope that we will be of support to you as you get to feeling better.
Blessings,
Suz

My mom tried, and they said I had to be the one to call.

I have realized that the reason I have problems going to new places is that although I have lost 50 lbs I still have that same mentality and I think that people will judge me(if that makes sense).I have been keeping a journal where I write only positive things, and I've been doing things I wouldn't normally do(going to stores alone, going to new places). I've been doing a lot better. I start back to school in August and I'm extremely excited even though everything about it will be new. I'm determined to not let this get in the way of the things I want out of life, I've done that for too long. Thanks for all your help.

I am very proud of you, Holly. Give yourself credit for pushing through your feelings. I am excited for you. Please keep in touch & let us know how school goes. August sounds like it's far off, but summer always goes too fast. Wishing you continued success. (((hugs))) jan
