i had to call up the HSBC arena box office because i had a Q about my tickets, and my anxiety came - i was a little shaky and my heart rate increased a little. so i made a note of this to also tell the dr when i go next month.
also, i believe i posted about this before, but i've been thinking about my wedding & shower....and if i'll have anxiety or not. my shower is may 21 and i don't like being the center of attention. i never have, even before i started having anxiety problems. i talked to tim about it, and he doesn't know what to tell me. he asked if i can maybe take my med before, since its a beta blocker and can be used for stage fright....but i don't know if i can. the med also can be used for blood pressure, and i don't want to effect that. so i guess i'll just have to see what happens that day, and talk to my dr. i want my wedding to go as smoothly as possible. i know i'll be feeling all sorts of emotions that day, and i don't want to deal with my anxiety symptoms on top of it.
thanks for listening!

It's nice to hear from you, Kimberly. It's very normal to have some anxiety in anticipation of your big events. Since the dr. prescribed the beta blocker, you should trust him that you will be safe when taking it. The dosage to control blood pressure would be higher & can be
hi jan
i take the atenolol once a day. my dr said this was the best option for me, since i don't know when i'll experience my symptoms.
with tim asking about taking a pill before the shower, he meant that i take 2 pills that day - one before the shower and one at my regular time. that's why i'm not too sure if it would be a good idea to do so or not.
i haven't seen/talked to a counselor. when i first told my dr about my anxiety, he explained the different types of anxiety & ways to treat it. he said that my anxiety is only the physical aspect of it, so that's why he decided that the med was the best way to go.
Just a thought, Kimberly. Maybe you could delay your daily dose of atenolol until just before the shower. If the prescription says once a day, then you would still be following the order. You can always call the dr. to be sure. He might even allow you to take an extra dose the day of the shower. He'll be understanding due to the circumstances.
Most clergymen/women make time available for private appointments. You might consider calling the church to set up a time convenient for both of you. Surprisingly, most of the clergy have had counseling training & they have experienced folks with all sorts of troubles. You will be in good hands. Good luck! (((hugs))) jan
i take the atenolol at 6pm, everyday. my shower starts at noon. i'm probably just going to see how the shower goes, and not take any extra dosage. it also can give me an idea of what the wedding reception may be like in terms of my anxiety.
my dr appt is the day after the shower. i'll be sure to tell my dr
Kimberly, I think that you will be fine.

hi sheri
i hope i'm fine for both the shower & wedding. like i said, i'll see what happens at the shower and take it from there. i tell myself everyday that i'm going to OK on those days - i'm trying to stay positive.
some times i don't know if what i'm experiencing is anxiety or if i'm just nervous. for example
Kimberly,
I'm a newlywed myself and I was so worried about my anxiety for the shower and the wedding. My parents had a suprise shower for me and I was so freaked out that I had a panic attack in the middle of it! Once I calmed down though, I really enjoyed it. Like you, I don't usually like to be the center of attention. Remember though, that there are some times in your life where you truly deserve it, and this is one of them. Since you know when your shower is, you can be prepared for the onslaught of good wishes. I really enjoyed my shower once the panic attack passed and I was so happy to see all of my friends and relatives in one place.
On the day of my wedding I did end up taking half a Xanax while I was at the hairdressers. When I think about it now, the med had worn off by the time the wedding came around! I ended up having such a wonderful day...
After my wedding was when I began to realize that my panic/anxiety were worsening compared to previous years and I sought treatment. You're way ahead of the ballgame b/c you're already getting help and have skills to cope with your anxiety. I'm sure you'll do great when the big day comes!
