muscle tension?

Is it pretty common to have tension in your neck and upper back when suffering from anxiety/depression? I wake up every morning with bad tension in my neck and shoulders. It gives me chronic tension headaches. I am just wondering if anyone else has experienced this? Thanks for any help and advice!

Thank you so much! It has been driving me crazy! I even had a head CT a couple weeks ago (it came back normal). One other question, do you ever feel a bit light-headed or dizzy from the tension? My chiropracter said tension in the neack and shoulders can cause dizziness.

I have tension in my back/shoulder/neck CONSTANTLY. I would definitely say it's an anxiety thing. And the sad part is that I am already on a prescription muscule relaxer because of headaches and migraines, and I still end up tense ALL of the time. :(
I totally feel where you are coming from!
This has been an ongoing problem for me when I get stressed out. I can literally feel my muscles tensing. Long warm soaks in the tub are helpful for me. Also, I will rest for 20 minutes with the heating pad on low & a little Ben Gay.

I get the tension in my right shoulder which runs up my neck and gives me those tension headaches you speak of. It will also run down my right arm and give it a numbing feeling. Like Sheri Ann I eat too many tylenol pills just trying to find some kind of relief for myself.

I have always said my anxiety is worse every April & October, during the height of my allergy problems.

Ok, I'm laughing here, Keitha, because I went to the doctor today and said I'm taking TOO MUCH ibuprofen, lol.
